I'd like to know your thoughts on this product.
It would cost me $23 to get this version of the key, and I'd just like to know its worth it. What makes this one better (if it is)? Is it worth that much money considering I can get a traditional haunted key for $5? I've never used a haunted key before as it never fit my style of performing, but I plan on using it for inductions as recently suggested to me and I think it's a brilliant concept.

I had a Carlyle Key and the "aging" eventually rubbed off from carrying it in my pocket.
I would go with one of the haunted keys from Rich at MentalCraft. He has a banner ad on the Café. Woodfield |

Here is an aged key, like Carlyle's, that also doubles as a pendulum. Certainly many uses there for inductions! |

Guys, I love Rich's work but I think the Carlyle Haunted Key is superior. I do agree there is a problem with the aging rubbing away, but this can be fixed.
The turn is easier to control with the Carlyle, especially a sloooow finish which I have never managed with Rich's key. Now I do have the smaller one so maybe it is different with the large model. I do love Rich's key for a pendulum. As for the price, the extra 18 bucks are definitely worth it. The $5 ones look like that is what they are worth and don't have nearly the heft or offer as finely tuned a turn. Or buy Carnival of Secrets and learn Scryer's Haunted Pen! To be honest, since learning it I don't bother with a key anymore. |

Ironically I was thinking about putting some sort of chain through the key to turn it into a pendulum that I could wear if needed (under shirt, not going for the esoteric look of wearing a key).
However, I'm still leaning towards Carlyle because a slow turn is completely necessary for what I'm planning. How do you fix the aging problem?

Bill, Carlyle's Key is the cheap $7.00 key, just "aged". I agree, the cheap key is balanced really well. I have used one, and no one questions it. It's a key. |

What you are buying with Caryle's is an aged key and his placement / handling. The placement is slightly different. You will also get (if you want) a generous friend.

Carlyle Haunted Key is my choice. It just feels better and more controllable than most.
I have heaps of keys and this one is memorable. |

David-
I think he means that Ed is a very generous guy who likes his customers and sometimes sends little extras along to them. Ed's among my oldest friends in the business and one of the best. |

I bought an Ostin clip from Carlyle a few weeks ago and got 3 complimentary ebooks, because he thought I would like them. Very generous!

Carlyle's key is excellent and well worth the money. I also have his Ostin Clip (Riggs design) and it is an absolutely wonderful tool. I don't have the one from Mentalcraft so I can't compare, but Rich'a products have always been great too.
As everyone is saying here, Carlyle is a pleasure to deal with and one of the friendliest guys in the business, you'll be happy to shop at his store. They key's balance is perfect as is his handling of it. I use it a lot and frequently mix it up with Pablo Amira's "Energy Key" routine. By the way, the aging on mine also went away but my girlfriend fixed it up with her arts and crafts kit. She tells me "patina" is the key word here. That said, the aging isn't really necessary unless your backstory and context require it. |

Carlyle all the way. I am not sure what exactly makes it so wonderful. It just....works.
Paul Prater also puts out a wonderful Haunted Key with an equally wonderful routine. David

Huh? I've never seen a $7 key anything like Carlyle's. He isn't aging the same cheapy keys as I think all the other accolades indicate. RE: Aging, what Mauricio said! |

Carlyle's haunted key is the best balanced, best looking, best performing of the pocket sized keys out there. Yes, I believe he does take and age the Royal/Fun Inc. haunted key. That is a good thing because that key is manufactured specifically for the haunted key effect: perfect balance, easy to start, easy to control for slow turning, and without an ending "flop." I believe that Paul Prater does the same for the haunted key kit he sells, although I don't own that one (yet). If you've ever tried to age one of those keys, it is time consuming and no easy task, and I've never been able to make one come out nearly so nice as Carlyle does. Worth every penny and then some, IMO.

The Carlyle key is great. I use both that and the Prater key. Getting to talk to Ed (Carlyle), though, is an opportunity that should not be missed. He's an encyclopedia of mentalism and a living piece of magic history. I also use his Ostin clips in eery show - also well worth a look!

Mea culpa. The Carlyle Key is indeed the Haunted Key from Fun inc. just aged as stated above. I have just been "schooled" but by a really cool guy named Ray who I might not have contacted otherwise so it was worth it!
Another lesson in humility and the vagaries of memory. |
