I like the idea of the audience thinking that they are in total control and then something happening that they wouldnt have expected. the first one that comes to mind is where you have two notes, one on top of the other, at right angles you roll them up and have the person put a finger on the little bit of each note that is sticking out. unroll them and the two have switched place. the couple of books I have are just a couple I found whilst being dragged around the op shops by my mum and nan. thought I better get something out of it.

Throw in the odd pick-a-card effect that I do (e.g., Divide and Conquer, Triumph, The Visitor), and you'll see that I have a lot of physical - as well as verbal/auditory - interaction. It takes all kinds. |

I think the perception of pick a card effects is that the audience will say, "oh, ive seen this one" as soon as you say, "pick a card", but I like to play with that perception. When I have an audience pick a card, I want them to assume that I will do something "ordinary", then I will do a strong effect.
Its my perception that most people have never seen a high level sleight of hand magician, so they assume you are going to perform a card trick that uncle tom does at family gatherings..this is a fun dynamic to play with, having them pick a card leads them down that garden path. Billy P.s. I do doctor jacob dailys last trick more then any other effect, and I have a kicker ending where I do it face up....super strong! |
