Legend has it that Mr. Addams would periodically show a particular cartoon to his editor, and every time he did, he would be hospitalized. Don't know if that's true, but it would be interesting to see it. I loved the Addams cartoons as a child, and would take his books home from the library. My father, may he rest in peace, quite sensibly thought that the book Mr. Addams published of materials that inspired him was not suitable for a young, impressionable mind. Probably wouldn't seem that bad to folks today, but I haven't seen it in years, and Mr. Addams certainly had an unusual mind.

For me, in terms of hitting percentage, I don't think any cartoonist surpasses Larsen.. It's the rare one that doesn't make me laugh.
