What are your thoughts and suggestions about Rachel Columbini's 'Book Test of Book Tests'? Very reasonable at $10 for a download. Let me know what you think.

I guess Max was wrong...he said you would be more forthcoming. (Ah, yes...you are all thinking....'number of posts') Suspicious men. Yet, how can you know that I am a full-time working magi with little time for social networking? (If only you could read my mind...C'est la vie!)
Back to Rachel's BTOBT, I am sure variations of many of these routines can likely be found in PMM and 13 Steps, but this download looks like a nice one, with the proceeds going to a great lady. I already know most of you have it. Have you found any particular entry (Fox, Himber, Adair, Fulves, Koran~ala~Columbini,et al.) enriching to your presentation? |

Thank you, Tony and Godzilla. You are most kind. I have the test and it is devilishly wonderful! If anyone wishes to share their favorite B**K Test, I would be ever so pleased at your generosity.

You will find that different tests work better for some people than for others. You should know "Why" a specific book test is favored by someone, ask yourself what you are trying to accomplish with a book test? A word revelation, a scene revelation, a drawing dupe, multiple revelations, etc... What conditions are important to you?...does the book have to be borrowed, clean, gaffed, how gaffed etc...there are so many marketed and written about tests. I personally use a combination of MOABT type books, some Blacks Magic books including the Sherlock Homes Inductive, Dracula, and WR of the Worlds. The combination for me works well on stage as a multi phase and impossible to reverse engineer combination of techniques. I hope this is helpful.

I have not yet gotten my grubby hands on this, but it's on "the list." I have been happy with my purchases from Rachel and Aldo, and you can't beat the prices.

I've always liked Emerson's "Pegasus Page", because it can play for one spectator as well as for the stage. It also gives you plenty of scope of how to handle the finale.
There are also a couple of very nice, straightforward book test handlings explained by Richard Osterlind, which are impromptu. A couple are found on his ETMM dvd's, but my favourite of his was in the "Six Shooter Book". I'll be picking up Chris Philpott's "Tossed Out Book Test" at some point, as that looks great for the right sized audience. |

Yes, oui, a 'favorite BT' is difficult, indeed. Different for each person for different reasons. Many people say good things about Karmilovitch's BT. I search for a method that is straightforward with an ungaffed book. Counting and adding vexes me! Magic happening 'in the spec's hands' (be it card, coin, silk, or book) gives the strongest impression of all, IMHO.
The Pegasus page is also intriguing. Spellbinder has some nice commentary on this from back in 2007: http://www.themagiccafe.com/forums/viewt......um=15&21 Osterlind shines as a creative genius. |

If your avatar is reflective of your persona you should certainly check out Outlaw Effects for their book tests. They are unrivaled.

Bella,
I agree to some extent with what Spellbinder says about "Pegasus Page", although I don't think his example is any less 'magicky'. If you read further down the thread, Doug Dyment and Bill Cushman both advocate taking the route that I would propose, in order to stay within the more accepted boundaries of 'mentalism'. |
