I've looked over some of the offerings out there on the subject of conversational or covert hypnosis and I'm struck by just how into the whole "aggressive marketing" thing most seem to be. The Steve Pellari and Igor Ledochowski stuff seems to be highly regarded, but after looking over their sites I'm somewhat put off by the sales pitch - I don't need more spam. I ended up buying the Oxford Handbook of Hypnosis and one of Ledochowski's earlier books off Amazon. Not sayin anything bad, just making an observation.

Google turned up several discussions on other forums, as well as a YouTube vid by some dude who says he looked over 7 different courses/offerings in the field and reports those 2 as the best content (I'm impressed by the amount of free time/funds he apparently could muster for the project). In other words, its in print on the intrawebs, ergo it must be true.

I agree with you, mojo.
I've heard some very good things about Igor from people who have studied with him in person. I'm totally turned off by his marketing. |

I will say, though, that I'm oddly compelled to buy them anyway.
I'm also very sleepy. |

Although I agree his marketing could be a bit classier it hasn't changed in years. This leads me to believe its actually quite successful. From everything Ive studied or read this style of marketing is very successful. I have also in the past bought shed loads of products from this type of marketing. Ive also successfully used it myself with clients. I think one of the big miistakes you can make with regards to marketing is to believe everyone responds to an ad the same way you do. that's obviously not the case. And Im sure the right product pressing the right buttons even with this style of marketing could and probably has sold you in the past. |

You obviously read my posts Reg even if you don't seem to understand them. Anyone in direct response marketing will tell you the same its simply fact. I started out in Advertising and used to do visuals for tv commercials with some of the biggest ad agencies in the country based in edinburgh in the 80s. I still work with marketing clients occasionally with pitches and now with online marketing. I also use conversational hypnosis to help clients win big pitches. If I want to learn how to stick some ones hand to a table I know where to come.
You stick to what your best at. Being a Guru for street hypnotists. The amount of misinformation by so called gurus marketing their crap on here its no wonder you want me to leave. |

I don't know in general why people wouldn't read mindpunisher's posts, but I think the above post made a lot of sense.
I can say for sure that in the past I have spent A LOT of money on products using this style of marketing. In each case I can think of off the top of my head I got extremely enthusiastic about the persona and product that I was buying, they had effectively positioned themselves as the only authority on the subject to me, and then (usually after spending tons of money) I lost a lot of faith in the product and person and person and felt like I had been taken. Often my buyers remorse would set in after learning more about the field and realizing that, far from being the only expert in the field, I was being sold fair to good standard stuff at highly inflated prices. I wonder if the less you know about a field the more enticing this type of marketing can be (seems to be the case for me anyways). Now that I have had a fair number of bad experiences, and consciously aware of the "Dan Kennedy" method, I am much more wary of ads like this; but still occasionally susceptible, and I get taken by other styles very easily!

I get no end of emails from these chaps. I don't even know how they got my address. One name in particular is very aggressive with his ploys... just when I think he can stoop no lower... along comes another one. I don't know if there is any research to show that panning fellow hypnotists is a good marketing strategy but I find it repugnant to say the least.

I have to say punishy has fallen into pattern behavior. Everyone but him is not good or doing it wrong.
But also contained within all the negativity is actual knowledge. I just would like to see him actually get in the game instead of just talking about how great it was 20 plus years ago. To be fair not being able to do it any more for whatever reason hurts credabity some.

Ummm, okay.
I know its hard to let things go when there is irritation and conflict, but I'll make the "suggestion" that we reframe the discussion - we're a bunch of friends with a common interest having an interesting and friendly conversation. Occasionally someone will say something that rubs the wrong way, especially on the net where we can't use other cues to defuse confrontation. I'm new here, but I'll suggest that we agree to just let it go and try for a while to approach our posts and interactions as if we were new to the forum, but use whatever feedback you've gotten so far (positive and negative) to help guide you away from stepping on toes in future posts. I've got stuff to learn from all of you, so nobody gets to leave yet (in a huff or otherwise) - got it? :^) |

If you disagree with someone's message, say so. Present your argument. No problem.
If all you can do is insult someone, that's being a troll. Even if you're 100% right and the person you're attacking is 100% wrong, you're still being a troll. Please present your argument. We don't need trolls. |

I wonder if this thread holds the record for the speed at which it degenerated? I know most of them do, but this was quick!
