I just saw his show at the matinee on Saturday. Same line up that armagician mentioned, but no squeeze box. We got seats in the back, but were offered a front row center seat by a staff member. They led us to the new seats after the first illusion and David poked fun at me and my wife for being late to the show. It was pretty awesome to have a stage side seat.

I saw virtually the identical show in January and it was great. I was also seated at the edge of the stage, probably not the best seat to watch from, actually, but I enjoyed every minute of the show. Before David came on stage, an assistant asked each of us in the front row if we were magicians, as part of a "welcome to the show" conversation. I am guessing he did that in order to avoid later selecting one of us as a stage assistant for an effect.
All in all it was a very balanced act that even included some close up work in the audience with the aid of hand held cameras. I would pay to see the show again.

Magictim,
I was at table 6 at the front. I had asked if someone was going to be that middle table you got seated at. They said that they don't like to seat people there. I thought that was kind of weird, then once the show started some folks moved up there (as if they were late) and then he made that joke. Interesting how they don't sell that table just so they can move a group up there and he can make the joke. Its worth it! It gets a big laugh and the placement of Webster's first cameo is a perfect point for having the group move down there. That way they aren't actually missing any magic. What a smart man. |

Every night someone in the front row used to be handed binoculars for another planned ad-lib. It's just show business

I was one of the volunteers on stage with DC in Australia a few years ago (2009?)
I was to stand there and watch guard for his effect "thirteen". One of the most amazing moments of my life.

This is DC's current list of illusions in August.
1.Motorcycle Shadow Box 2.Balloon 3.Cubby Levitation 4.Floating Rose 5.Words 6.Email From The Future 7.The Butterfly 8.Lotto Prediction 9.Slo Mo Duck 10.The Fan 11.Thirteen One of the illusions I'm desperately dying to see is his "Email From The Future" .... it just doesn't make sense at all.....this has got to be the greatest prediction illusion in the history of magic.....I don't even know where to start. And did someone say DC "BOUGHT..THE APP FROM A FELLOW MAGICIAN " ???? May you please clarify ? I really dream of watching a DC show one day. Also am I the only one here that thinks there is too many mentalism illusions on the show ? |

I saw the show a few months ago and agree lots of mentalism, even taking one effect out would be an improvement

I saw the show a few days ago and I don't think there is too much mentalism as it is not performed as pure mentalism. The audience was blown away. It was very entertaining listening to the couple seated at our table as they were so convinced its real magic.
The Hollywood Theatre is a very intimate setting and the prediction effects involve the audience very nicely. Instead of performing magic for the audience, its more like making magic happen WITH the audience. Last time we saw him at MGM was in 2011 and he seemed a bit tired, but now he surely wasn't. Even my better half, who has seen David live twice before, said "So NOW I understand what you mean about his charisma". He was nice enough to have his assistant invite us to meet him after the show and he was kind, funny and energetic.

Yes, from all your comments it sounds like David Copperfield should take a rest on his island. I saw him back some 20 years ago here in town. He was acting very tired then as well. The only place he does not seem that way is on his television specials, after reading these comments.
Once they get in that income bracket, they have to keep working to stay in that income bracket. I am sure his high rent for his warehouse, museum and apartments in New York and Las Vegas is a big bill every month. |

Saw the show last week just before Magic Live - it was fantastic. If you want to see Copperfield, however, word from someone in the "know" is that the whole show will be new come September. We'll see!

I was lucky to watch the Copperfield show on Saturday before Magic Live. Yhe new material is fantastic - lots of audience participation which gives everything a very fresh feeling and new emotions, with some "impossible" magic.
Matt - when you say the "whole" show will be new, I assume that the new things will stay that have been worked in over the past year or so (the first of which was the butterfly), and that the older things (Squeeze Box, Motorbike appearance, Webster etc.) will go? |

I saw the show immediately after Magic Live. It was definitely not the best time to have seen it, having just been overloaded with fantastic magic performances. I felt that it was a little bit tired in places, but it was still a fantastic show. Looking at it from a muggles perspective, rather than that of someone who is comparing Copperfield now with Copperfield as he was, it is still one of the top shows a layperson can see. Even if Copperfield is sometimes a huge dork. For magicians who are familiar with his work, it does not compare with some of his past touring shows. How could it? Those were huge productions with a much younger star. It was a nice, intimate theatre and his presentations were fantastic. The mental effects were a little much, since I had been hoping for more illusions, but there's no denying that he is a seasoned pro. We could all learn a lot from his showmanship.
All that having been said, Mac King was the best show I saw that day (the other being Ka) at a fraction of the cost. |

I saw the 9:30pm show Sat night the first week of August. The set list was what armagician described plus squeeze box. I *think* squeeze box was in between words and email from the future. I almost caught the ball for email from the future!! How life changing that moment could have been...
I personally thought it was an absolutely fantastic show. He was hilarious, full of life with his geeked out moments. His show brought out the kid in me. I grew up watching his specials on tv and use to rewatch them over and over again, but as I grew up I kind of forgot about him. My vegas trip was a bit of a spontaneous trip with a couple friends and I convinced them to see the show (finding out he had a show resurfaced that crush of mine). My two friends had never seen any of his tv specials and knew next to nothing about him, but they came out of it loving it, they cried laughing so hard and the show made fans out of them. There was a lot of audience participation and funny enough, pretty much every audience participant was from another country and english was not their first language. But Copperfield rolled with the punches and made the best out of it, never complaining about the situation and instead he seemed to see the humour in it all. That made me love him more as an entertainer - that curiosity and zest for life was reinvigorating to watch. And though a lot of the illusions I've seen from the tv specials, it's a much different experience watching it live in an intimate theatre. I had plenty of moments of awe and wonder and "what the -?!" moments. The spectacle of his illusions and his personality really make the show. All in all, I think you'll get out of the show what you go in looking for. If you're looking to have a fun time and don't nitpick on things that are irrelevant its a highly entertaining and fun show. I found his stories and passion for his craft inspiring, and definitely plan on seeing his show again - someday, somehow, somewhere. The only thing I found "missing" about his performance from his tv specials was the flirtatious Copperfield. I know he's gotten older, but I always found that fun to watch. |

I saw Copperfield live for the first time the 3rd week of September. Amazing show. We were about a 1/3rd of the way back in the theatre. I was lucky enough to have an usher toss one of the large balls to me for 'thirteen' and I got to vanish and reappear. Afterwards we got to go backstage and meet Copperfield and get an autographed photo of him. Seemed like a genuinely nice guy and an experience I will never forget. I can honestly say I wasn't a huge fan of him before but afterwards, wow.
