Hi,
I read the advert for "It's Done With Mirrors" and it seemed pretty good: Quote:
Magician shows four of a kind all face up. The cards are aligned and when spread out one of the cards is now face down. This is repeated until each of the four cards has reversed itself. The performer then offers to explain how the trick works. "It's done with mirrors" he explains. The pack is turned face down and each card is now shown to have a mirror finish on both the face and the back. Not for beginners. What do you think? Is it good? I am not asking for the secret, but I do not like tricks that use rough and smooth. Should I buy this? eric

If you don't like Rough and Smooth, don't buy it.

Dear Erictan,
The effect is quite good. I have used this for years in my strolling work. (It does NOT use Rough & Smooth.) As a packet trick it plays just fine. I prefer to keep the necessary gimmicked cards in my normal deck and after a few effects, remove them and as a finale perform "Done with Mirrors". Used in this manner it is quite startling. I hope this helps, Cody S. Fisher

Sorry, I mixed it up with the other one which uses Rough and Smooth.

I've had "It's Done With Mirrors" for some time now and it's a great effect! And yes, as fishermagic said, it does not use Rough/Smooth. It's easy to do and with the right performance and patter, the effect can leave a lasting impression on your spectators.

I've never seen the effect you guys are talking about, however it sounds exactly like an old effect by Sam Schwartz. Sam's effect was called "Flipperation" and it was marketed sometime in the late 60's or early 70's, I believe.
I'm curious as to who originated the current effect "It's Done With Mirrors" and if they credit Sam for the concept. Interestingly enough, the tag line from the Schwatz effect is "it's done with mirrors". Could it be that this is a case of "independent" invention? Perhaps.. Best thoughts, John Smetana |

Hi,
incidentally I have a video on card sleights by tod buchanan. in the video, he also teaches a trick and it ends with the words "it's done with mirrors". but I doubt it is the same trick that I was asking about. This packet trick can be shown (according to the advert) front and back to be mirrors. the one that tod buchanan was teaching in the video can only show the cards have mirror finish on the backs. anyway, I have placed an order for the packet trick "its done with mirrors". will let you guys know how it works out when I receive it. eric

It's a great routine. Pretty simple to learn. Back-King is also another similar routine that I use also.

I recently found "Done With Mirrors" in my magic drawer that has been there for years. It really is a fine packet card trick! Can someone suggest a line of patter for Done with Mirrors?

Possibly patter about 'smoke and mirrors'

Very similar card effect I purchased from Bob King several years ago called Mirreversal..
This is the ultimate in packet-tricks. In Twisting-The-Aces fashion, four cards magically turn face up, then face down. The mind-blowing ending comes when the cards are turned over and dealt to the table. Their jaws will drop when they see that ALL FOUR CARDS have turned to mirrors! Resets instantly and very easy to perform; the gimmick cards do all the work. No rough and smooth... Joe |

Through the years, tricks have come and gone but I always come back to Done with Mirrors and it never fails to floor people. You need to do it in the midst of a routine because naturally they desire to touch the mirrors so you have to transition away from that, but I love this effect. Try Diamond Jim's DVD on tricks with mirror cards for more ideas...he gives you the materials to make your own set too.

Wow. I'm glad this thread has come back to life. I have been playing around with "It's done with mirrors" for a while and I'm glad I found this discussion about it. There are a lot of packet effects around now that have a similar sequence going on......cards turn face up/face down, then the backs change color, then the backs completely change to a different pattern. They all use pretty much the same method, and then the F********ion count to show fronts and backs. Instead of changing colors/patterns, in "Mirrors" the fronts and backs change to mirrors. "Jack-Ro-Bats" from Martini's Magic is an example of one. I have a bunch of packet effects that use this principle and they are actually very good and really freak laymen out.
