How do I get someone to pull some change out of his pocket so he doesn't think I set anything-up with him?

But isn't that a tip-off that you're up to something?
If the trick was completely organic, wouldn't the volunteer come over and offer you some change without you asking?

People never "change" without some motivation.

Ugh... the "organic" argument.
We live in a mostly cashless society. Few people actually carry around pocket change anymore. I use all my own coins, bills, ect. I never borrow from any spec and I've never had anyone say anything or worry about if it's "organic". They're expecting to see magic; things out of the ordinary. Heck, one of the best 'effects' if you want to call it that that I use is utterly INORGANIC. Standard silk from silk, hand vanish the produced silk, palm a matching color mouth coil and pull that sucker out. I even have specs pull on the end... they love it. And last time I checked, I never saw anyone pulling a 20 foot long coil of paper from their mouth as part of a regular day. Other than magicians. Why worry? Just do it.

After you ask for change. Say," We did not set anything up. Right?"

Use mind control

Yes, mind control would be a likely answer.
Maybe the guys in the inner thoughts section of The Banquet Room could help answer the question.

Read Inducing Challenges by Pit Harling, its in Card Fictions but I think its floating online some where. He also wrote it up in Magic I believe, could be Genii.
Basically, you need to find a way to make them say do a trick with my change. This could be saying something like, if you liked that you should see the coin magic I do, then go into another card effect. Someone will say, how about that coin magic, you can reply, sorry, don't have any change, and someone will say here is mine. Think a long those lines. Hope this helps, Six |

I think that the act of mentioning you could do a coin trick , and waiting for them to bite, might get them thinking they were roped in somehow. What would be totally organic is if the phone rang and a prospective customer tells you they saw a perticular trick on TV and they would pay you to come-over and perform it. Then no one would suspect any set-up including the customer. So the question is how to get the customer to watch the TV special from another magician and somehow plant your advertising in a location they frequent. In today's market, I understand the importance of making things appear completly random. At least, that's what everyone is saying.

I freely admit to being completely clueless about your concern. Would it be organic enough to ask the audience at large for a handful of change, I.E. " could someone with some change in their pocket please raise your hand?". Would this question relieve your concern of any possible setup since anyone could've answered your call to participate?
