... knowing what you know now, what would you do?
Would you switch to a different "genre" of magic than you now perform or have performed in the past? Would you take a handful of effects and concentrate on perfecting them? Do you think you would be better able to refrain from buying all of the "latest and greatest"? Would you learn as many methods as possible for one particular effect? Would you seek out a mentor or teacher? Would you tailor your education (or at least your electives) to support your performance? Something else?
Things are more like they are today than they've ever been before...

Already switched. Would you take a handful of effects and concentrate on perfecting them? Yes. Am doing so. Do you think you would be better able to refrain from buying all of the "latest and greatest"? Absolutely. Would you learn as many methods as possible for one particular effect? If possible. Would you seek out a mentor or teacher? Yes. Would you tailor your education (or at least your electives) to support your performance? Yes and yes.

I would have waited about 30+ years to buy DVDs, when L&L started selling 10 sets for $100. The money I could have saved.

I definitely would lean more towards magic that doesn't look like "apparatus." I do that now, but I spent a lot of money on various boxes in the beginning.

I'd realize that I was a "Lifer" earlier and that I was a real Magician earlier as well.
I'd take a course in business. I'd make the most of my looks while I had them LOL (this photo is not a good representation of me in my daily life). I'd get rid of things that don't suit me sooner no matter what they cost. I would start as a Child. -Mary Mowder |

I do magic, stand up comedy, and a juggling. If I had it to do over I would have added acrobatics to my bag of tricks.

Mary, I believe that was the route that Mark Wilson took and where did it get him?

If I could I would have listen to all the advice and bought more books instead of buying fly by tricks. I wouldn't have a drawer full of stuff I don't use.

I wouldn't change a thing. I'm very happy with the journey that magic has taken me on so far. If I went back and meddled with it I might not have ended up where I am today.

If I had the chance to do it all over again, I wouldn't. Nothing is as much fun the second time around.

I would never have gotten involved. I just threw away all my cards: unsealed decks, trick packs, double backs you name it. Filled up a huge garbage bag full. Man did it feel good to dump that stuff.

Slide- Didn't you pause to consider that there are a lot of appreciative and worthy young magicians that you could have given that "garbage" to? I can understand why one might want to get out of magic after discovering it is not for them. But your comments come very close to denigrating an art that many of us love deeply and have devoted our lives to. Why do you feel the need to do that?
