Auriuspd - THAT is exactly what I was wondering. I really did want a back for the apparatus as I didn't like the exposed electronics. I really do hope that Yaniv makes the back covers available to early and loyal purchasers.
(I think I deserve one anyway since it was me who discovered the improved switch covers - something the trick desperately needed!) |

I have finally received the Cobra Magic Light and still waiting for the switch for the improved covers. I will start playing with it. Will be glad to receive any advices from anyone who already owns it regarding ideas for new routines.

Let me express my appreciation for the excellent discussion of Cobra Light on this thread. The discussion influenced me to do two things: 1) To order Cobra Light, and 2) to join the Café!
Based on receiving Cobra Light, playing with it, and performing it for the first time last night, two thoughts may contribute to the discussion. First: When you receive the prop, it directs you to a website in Israel, where you can watch a good magician perform and demo it, and you can watch the developer teach you about it. Alas, the performance is clear, but the teaching lacks the clarity for one "getting it" the first time through, or maybe the second. The developer is undoubtedly good, technologically; but speaking is not as much his forte, and English appears to be his second language, and so it is somewhat laborious to follow. Possible, but laborious. Second: The prop is only accompanied by a cardboard box to carry it in, which will not be sufficient for protecting it for very long. So I dropped by an office supply place and bought an inexpensive carrying case for a small camera, which gives the Cobra Light good protection. With those provisions, I like the effect, a lot, and can recommend it. For performance, I have developed a "What If?" theme, in three sequences. 1) What if the connection is not between the switches and the lights, but between the switch caps and the lights? 2) What if the connection is really between the switch caps and the colored covers over the bulbs? 3) From the little computer's monitoring of your choices for cap placements and colored cover placements , What if it now "knows" the next decision you will make? I returned tonight to the Cobra Light website, and found a pleasant surprise. The original explanation of the effect, presented by the effect's developer, has been replaced. The explanation is now presented by the same performer as in the demo video. The explanation is now more lucid. Thank you Cobra people for your flexibility, and for finding even better ways to serve your customers.

Difficult choice if you have to chose only one of them.
Lucky if you can chose all of them. Each one is more impressive than the other. |

This is a terrific little pocket effect. I love my Wellington Switchboard, but obviously won't be carrying it for walk-around ("please pardon the extension cord.."). This mini version gives you pretty much the same effect, plus it has a couple of nice extra phases, such as one where you take off all of the colored caps and show that the lights themselves are just white LED's, and light in the original sequence you started in. The "mindreading" phase at the end concludes the routine on a high note, in a way that seems totally fair. It took me a little practice and trial and error to get it to work smoothly all the way through on a consistent basis - your timing has to be good and you have to handle it in a precise manner. Very happy to have this now to add some variety for walk-around.
Now appearing nightly in my basement.

I didn't like the back of the board, but thanks to John's (J M Talbot) fantastic “Smart Circuits” presentation it's not a problem now, and it's all logical.
My complements John, really smart thinking! Yaniv owns you a big one for that... REALLY! John |

I received mine yesterday and have been playing around with it this morning. The new description on the web is very clear. It only took me a few time through to have it down pat. The one I received now has a felt backing that covers the switchboard. That seems perfectly adequate to me. As Rhett and everyone else has said, the switch covers are the cheapest looking part of this. I'm planning later this morning to go to a Radioshack and buy the Toggle Switch with covers that he recommended. With that and a little carrying case of some sort, this then seems to me one of the best little items to carry around that I've seen in a very long time. It also seems quite inexpensive for the complexity of the electronics. So I'm one more who is highly recommending it.

A little correction: the backing is hard black metal or plastic covered with felt.
I bought the RadioShack switch and the switch covers look perfect on the Cobra. And I'm using John Talbot's patter. |

Slight change to the conclusion (for me). This is along the lines of showing the reversed "invisible" card before the spectator names it.
Since the CL is relatively the same size as some cell phones AND some people are familiar with turning their phone at various angles to activate aspects of certain applications - I don't want anyone associating turning the CL over with a light turning on. Fo me, my preference, is to either force the color or peek the spectators choice (using a Kenworthy product) then, the CL is turned over and the lighted color matches their choice "before" they say it aloud. And that's just my personal opinion which everyone is free to ignore.

Now that I've thought about it, you can peek the color, flip a switch and do the reveal, that way too adding another layer to the presentation - Without turning the CXL upside down, flip the switches until the selected light comes on, then turn off the other switches (as needed), then do the reveal (using the peek or force, as above).
Then say "But, people are always asking. What if I picked a different color... (have someone name a different color) and do the flip-reveal to conclude. If the color happens to be in the #1 position then you can flip ALL the switches (corresponding to the colors) and make a closing statement like "No matter what you said, the only explanation for how you matched the color is. It's magic"
