Has anyone made flap signs or slates? I'm looking for a way to make a changeable sign, about the size of a sheet of regular 8 1/2 x 11 paper (isn't this A4 for non-US people?) I'd want the sign to be blank on one side, then turn it around and it's blank on the other. Turn it again and it has writing on the first side; another turn and more writing. I guess this would be, uh, a double-flap sign? I'd like to be able to write on the surface so I could change what the sign said for different performances. I'd want to hold the sign the entire time. I'd have to be able to perform within 5 feet of the audience. One idea I had is to use a double sand frame. Any other ideas?

I was toying with poster board flap signs last year, with mixed results, I am now looking into some of the styrene art boards out there, they ain't cheap, about $5 each, but thin, stiff and able to paint/color/etc. they come in white and black. Cut with hobby knife, gently sand the edges to avoid styrene cuts (like papercuts only worse) Now If I can just get the flap to work like I want it!

I would use .030" aluminum or steel sheet painted to match a standard colored duct tape. I used it on a wood to steel seam painted red to match red duct tape years ago and it lasted four years before I changed my act and sold it. Duct tape makes a great hinge and will hold to metal forever. (Even if you don't want it to.)

Good Luck!
