Thanks for the compilation.

I just had a son, and if I could pick just one book to give him on learning magic it, without a doubt, would be Mark Wilson's Complete Course. I still do some effects I learned in 6th grade out of that book (which is 18 years ago when my father got me this book for christmas). Like his spongeball routine for example. Heck I use the injog shuffle control every show, it's so simple and perfect for lay audiences. This book just has it all.

WOW, what a tough question....My copy of "Show-Time At The Tom-Foolery".

Although AOA is VERY important to me as is my copy of the Amateur Magician's Handbook.

VERY tough, I keep second guessing myself !!!!!!!!!! Smile

There are such a lot o great books, that I have to think in another way.

I've found a used edition of Illustrated History of Magic by Christopher for 2,50 Dollars.

So I go with the price/ value formular and vote for this.

Boy, this is a really tough one. I'm glad this is a hypothetical question! I'm very surprised The Royal Road to Card Magic hasn't been mentioned (at least I didn't see it in the above list). If I could go with a single volume I would want it to contain many elements. I would want it to include both sleight-of-hand as well as self-working effects with all kinds of objects in addition to a section on presentation and/or theory. I'm not sure a book containing a really thorough exploration of all these elements has been written yet. Most lean heavily one way or the other. A few that come to mind that might barely squeeze into this criteria might be "Mastering the Art of Magic" by Eugene Burger and "Transformations" by Larry Hass. I tend to return to "The Magic Book" by Harry Lorayne again and again also. So I will say it's a toss-up between these three. I guess I just can't decide on only one.

I must admit, The Amateur Magicians Handbook is the choice for me... I have a very large library... I have read them all... I keep coming back to the Handbook. And so many who have never really read the book misunderstand its title... They think it is a book of cereal box tricks... Where, in fact, it is a collection arranged to teach you beginners level to high end sleight of hand with cards, coins and most any other small object. In fact, if you could perform competently all of the material in the Handbook, you would be acclaimed as a true expert.
If you ever get to a point where words have no meaning, you're probably talking to a dog.

Remember! More Bang For LESS Bucks! It is the right way!
