I recently saw a well known magician perform an "out of this world" type effect that blew me away. The cards are shuffled and the magician tells the spectator to try to guess the color of each card as he goes through them one by one off the deck. The spectator says black and the first card is black, the spectator says red and the next card he deals off is red etc. The magician goes though the whole deck with the spectator corectly calling each card down to the last one. This was incredible. Has anyone ever seen or heard of an effect that sounds like this?

Is he laying them face up or face down. Do we see that each color guess is correct before the fianal deisplay or after?

The cards are face down in the magicians hand, the color is called by specator and the top card is turned over to reveal that color. Each color guess is correct one by one until the last card. I know this sounds crazy. Ive seen many out of this worls effects, and perform "galaxy" often. thanks for the help

Wow Just amazing!
Could it be done with second deals, centre deals, and so on? And please, give us the name of this great magician. All the best magic, Pablo Tejero

This can be accomplihed with a well polished bottom deal. I have seen a magician in San Diego perform it this way and was blown away by it. If done correctly, it is great.

I agree, the bottom deal seems to be the solution to this

A bottom deal wouldn't work if you are using all of the cards. The chances of the spectator picking a perfect 26/26 split of the cards is too low. There would have to be a top change or bottom change in the effect as well. But then you run the risk of showing the same card too often.

Actually, the answer is available on the John Tremaine menalism video. No, it's not a bottom deal...much more elegant.

Agreed, no bottom deal. Since I have learned this one, I've used it many times and works pretty well. However, it gets a bit long-winded so it won't really do as an opener. And, IMHO, the bang at the end for the spectator isn't quite big enough for a closer. So there it sits, nestled comfortably in the middle of my routine.
You have to prep the deck before hand. I learned it from another Magician and I have no idea where he learned it from. Sorry. |

That sounds like an amazing effect, are you sure it is the same one as on the Tremaine video?

I believe Whit Hayden has an effect that matches the description, in his street magic manuscript he explains how he developed the routine (no bottom deals). Maybe this is helpfull

Roland and all,
After re-reading the original post, I see that I mis interpreted the challange. The Tremaine tape is, as you indicated, not the exact effect described. I must say, however, that it is perceived that way by the people that view it. Sorry for the missinformation. Ted (Leondo) |

The only thing I can think of is "Intuition" from "Magic With Cards."

Isn't it better if all the cards called are dealt face down and all revealed in the end of the effect?
If all 52 cards are revealed one by one, theres no climax. It's the same effect repeated 52 times. It's like an ambitious card that goes on forever. Yes maybe the one by one revelation fools magicians - but who cares for that? Jesper |

Must be a display of false dealing for it to work. Sounds like it could be related to call to the colours?

This could also be Boris Wild's Out Of This Deck version...

I was also thinking about the general principle used in Boris Wild's book. I personally use a different version of the same principle -- but my approach doesn't require "reading" -- it is truely impromptu.

Let me explain. No, there is too much. Let me sum up.

I think I have seen Dan White do this trick in Philadelphia.

Hi Giochi,
If you are looking for a version of Out of This World where each card is turned over one at time after the spectator chooses the color, then I am at a loss as to how to do it. But if you are looking for a version of Out of This World where you start with a deck shuffled by the spectator and the cards are turned over all at once at the end, check out "Impromptu Out of This World," by Harry Lorayne. I use it regularly and it is wonderful. Another advantage of this version is that it takes less time. Lorayne does not go through the whole deck. It can be found in one of his old books, "My Favorite Card Tricks." Perhaps it has been reprinted in a newer book by Lorayne. Richard |
