Yeah that's a pretty loaded question as there are A LOT of really good coin books out there from what I've discovered in my search. However my suggestion would probably be David Roth's Expert Coin Magic. It might be hard to come by but it's one of the best books on coin magic there is and since it's by Roth, who's been called 'the best coin man in the world' you know it's going to be good.

Welcome to the Café, 61
There are quite a few good coin books and loads of wonderful coin manuscripts, ebooks, out there. The venerable Dave Neighbors mentions some of his own which are pretty good from a real wizard of a worker. Few are any more prolific in creating and writing this stuff down than Mr. Neighbors. One that I have enjoyed over the years is "Coin Magic" by Richard Kaufman. Wonderful book that you'll go back to over and over again. Also, I give credit where it's due, and with that you should check out Curtis Kam's "Pocketbook" in pulling all this stuff together. Not only a top coin man, but he's quite accomplished in all facets of coin magic, quite the intellectual about it IMHO. Another good book is "The Essential Sol Stone" by Stephen Hobbs. Amazing man and his coin magic. Again, welcome and good journey to you.

The biggest ones out there, that will help you get to the next level, are Coinmagic, by Richard Kaufman, David Roth's Expert Coin Magic, by Richard Kaufman, and Al Schneider on Coins (very helpful to me when I was starting out). There are many smaller books and lecture notes that have good ideas, often with some no coin material included. These is stuff out (in no order) by myself, Mike Gallo, Derek Dingle, Larry Jennings, Vernon, Slydidi, Ramsay, Mike Ammar, David Neighbors, Rune Klan, Troy Hooser, Horace Bennett, Curtis Kam, John Mendoza, Paul Gertner, Paul Harris, Jay Sankey, Doug Brewer, Kainoa Harbottle, Sol Stone, Dr Sawa, R. Paul Wilson, Chris Kenner, and so many more. Not to mention the compilation books like the Stars of Magic, and numerous lecture notes. A lot of the later material is now out on DVD as well.
S.E.M. (The Sun, the Moon, and the Earth) is a sun and moon routine unlike any other. Limited to 100 sets, here is the promo:

Yes, the Café's own Michael Rubinstein has some fantastic stuff out there for coin work! One suggestion is his Encyclopedia of Coin Sleights DVD. I like that it eliminates most of the hours and hours you will need finding and researching most of the important coin sleights. He puts them all in one place for you. Also, if you have the funds, the New York Coin Magic seminar DVD's (featuring Roth, Rubinstein, Harbottle, Gallo...some of the biggest names in coin magic) are an absolute goldmine..well..er..SILVER mine. On that note I would strongly suggest looking to DVD's more than books after going through Bobo's. There's nothing that compares to seeing a sleight or move done in front of you to take away the guess work. In my experience it can be tough deciphering what a book might be trying to illustrate. 'Grasp coin by the lower edge, closest to the small fleshy part of the bottom of the third fingers beneath the second phalange...' you can see what I mean. I think that if DVD's were around in Bobo's day he would have done that instead of a book. There's even a DVD set out now to go along with Bobo's book. David Roth even released a companion DVD to his book called Expert Coin Magic Made Easy where he takes you through a lot of the sleights and routines. Other people here would know more than I what DVD's would be best but anything by those four guys I mentioned would be a good start.

If you're looking specifically for books, the fundamental works in my mind are:
Kaufman's CoinMagic Roth's Expert Coin Technique Bobos (which you said you already have) Al Schneider on coins Kainoa Harbottle's Coins on Edge and Troy Hooser's Destroyers Strangely, there aren't a lot of really dedicated coin books (at least compared with the number of DVDs, downloads, etc). But these are definitely a good start.

I would recommend David Roth's "Expert Coin Magic". It has years worth of material in it, from easy: Coin in Bottle to Hard: ...take your pick. For me this book is in a different League from any coin other book that came before or after it (so far). Well illustrated and written, unique plots, huge. It's hard to believe how much excellent material was created by one man. I got it in '85 or '86 and I still haven't conquered everything in it.

One point no-one has mentioned is that there are two editions of Bobo. The hardback "New Modern Coin Magic" has extra chapters which are not in the Dover paperback. Full details at http://magicref.tripod.com/books.htm

While not strictly a coin book, John Bannon's "Impossibilia" contains a handful of some nice coin routines, including one with a Boston coin box ("Brass-Ackwards Production"), and several with a coin purse.

Sol Stone & Milt Kort's books are worth considering.

An oft-forgotten treasure of coin magic is "The Pocketbook" by Curtis Kam, available at Lulu. http://www.lulu.com/us/en/shop/curtis-ka......662.html
Not very big and a lot of references to other books, but this has so much rich information on coin magic that I consider it to be one of my most valuable coin magic resources. Thanks! Jim |

One of the most useful books I have ever bought is "The Unexpected Visitor" by Doug Brewer. It's not mentioned much, but I consider that a good thing.

Another vote for Coinmagic and Expert Coin Magic. Not only are they filled with great material but they are things of beauty. I can remember that Coinmagic set a new standard in book quality when it was released. By today's standards they are reasonably priced but when they were released they were very expensive, Expert Coin Magic required a second mortgage and they were still worth every penny and much more.

Good Call Jim,
I always forget about Kam's pocketbook, but that's a great one. There's so much published on the theory of card magic, but very little on coin magic. Curtis does a great job expanding on what coin magic can be and what it is now.
