I recently asked the same question and I ended up with Expert Coin Magic, Coin Magic, and Destroyers. Since I am reading through and stydying this material now I want to let you know a few things. A good portion of the material in Expert Coin Magic, and Coin Magic is done at the table. Sure you can modify methods to work standing, but I thought that was something you might want to know before making purchses. The coin magic in Destroyers is in the hands, but does require "special items". I'm really happy with these and as everyone here has already said, they are the staple books of coin magic.

In addition to everything mentioned so far, I just want to add: Unexplainable Acts, and any of the Gary Kurtz lecture notes that you can get your hands on. Ditto the Scotty York lecture booklets, "Coins" and "Lecture", or the Magicana articles in Genii that described Scotty's stuff. Who knows? by the time you've read all those, the Geoff Latta book might be out.
Oh--and do look into John Ramsay's coin material. Either by way of the Andrew Galloway books, or the Farelli books, or John Carney's "Carneycopia" and Ramsay DVD's.

Lybrary.com has some coin material:
http://www.lybrary.com/magic-coins-chips......_28.html Does anyone have and recommend Farelli's Convincing Coin Magic? It looks like it emphasizes awkward devices rather than manipulation, but you can't tell a book by its Table of Contents either. http://www.lybrary.com/convincing-coin-magic-p-91295.html |

Not sure about this particular ebook, but man, it's quite astonishing to me to see so many coin magic books available that aren't from any such big names. I think it's wonderful, as it shows how the arena has opened up to the creativity of the many and not just the few. When I was a young boy, there was but one magic book available at the little library where I lived. That's all there was and I took it out over and over again, and was seemingly only one to do so telling by the book card in the back that always only had my name on it. To now see hundreds of books on magic and dozens upon dozens specifically on coin magic is just tremendous.
Now, I don't know how good all this stuff is really, as when you open the bar up to all, you're sure to get a bit of flat beer here and there at times. And of course there will also be varying levels of magicians that will give thumbs up and down as to all this, but that's what they do. Just take the time to see for yourself as to things, typically the price is always right on this website. I have had some of the offerings there, like Sencillo (Loose Change) by Rannie Raymundo, Mike Wild's offerings, Radek Makar's Eastern Moves, MS, Scott Guinn, Mark Stone, Giacomo Bertini, and even classic works by Hugard and J.B. Bobo's New Modern Coin Magic, etc., and it has been all great stuff, just clever thinking and notable creativity with immediate access thanks to the Internet. No, all these guys are not your regular, recognizable top coin men, but do they really have to be to be able to offer good coin magic and ideas??? I don't think so, actually I know so as I've come across really great work from all sorts of people (many right here off the Café) that just love coin magic and play with it as much as anyone else out there, big or small. I'm thankful that they offer their work and share it with others. Sometimes you find out that there's still an awful lot to learn out there, no matter what you know or have done already. Every once in a while there is a bit of good invention as to greater technique and moves. More often, there might be another novel way to do a routine with nice personal touches here and there. To me, that's worth the price of admission most times. It's hard to come across anything absolutely new but it could be new to you, and provide you with a greater outlook and way to gitter-done. I have to say that I am quite impressed with Lybrary.com as it has helped make available valuable information, classic and newbie, allowing us all to participate as to how information is made available and disseminated. Some of it may be better offerings than some other stuff there but I'm glad it's there, and that it comes from all over the place, all over the world even, it more so invites us all to participate if we've got a good idea. We don't have to be any such big name to do it. Just have a good idea, research it, package it and get it out there and let people know what you think. It's wonderful! *And to better prove what I've been saying here, check out the Sencillo offering I mentioned above from Rannie Raymundo...Just great coin magic from a Café member here, a truly wonderful guy and real worker, still just $1 buck! You can't beat that with a baseball bat! http://www.lybrary.com/sencillo-p-1037.html

Thanks for the link to the TOC site, Barry! I was searching the forums to find info (before asking) about differences between the Dover Bobo and the hardcover New Modern Coin Magic. You provided just the info I needed.

I agree that Coinmagic by Kaufman is great. It has so many great effects by different contributors, it literally can be used over a lifetime.
Don't overlook the "sick" dvd by Ponta the Smith. I know it is not a book, but it is important. At first glance, it will seem like too much fingerflicking, but once you figure out how to extract moves to add to your routines, you will find yourself enjoying it over and over again. |
