You already know I have a thing about one handed knots...

So there I was with a 7 hour layover in Honolulu airport last week
a combination of poor scheduling by my client and mechanical troubles

There was a Hawaiian dude there, ground staff, in the gate lounge

You know those metal movable bollards that have an extendible strap
that they can quickly make lanes etc, like at the bank

He stood by this pole, pulled out the strap to about 4 feet
and proceeded to flick a knot onto it.

Nailed it 20 times in a row

Hi MrHyde
If you purchase the Dennis Loomis "Knot Routine plus" you can teach yourself to duplicate what that Hawaiian dude did at the Honolulu airport in the privacy of your own home, and there is a really great cameo appearance by the famous Mary Mowder who teaches one rope trick.

Thanks Al.

I'm showing one of Flip's knots.

Dick Oslund is also on that DVD but you should consider getting it anyway. LOL

I think there is also some video of Will Rogers on the DVD.

Dennis teaches lot of great material that can be used one at a time or in a routine.

Thanks Al

I have no problems doing the flick knot with either hand, sometimes at the same time , with rope or a necktie that I taught myself at school,
or by throwing it in the air with my improvements to the Griffiths stunt. Just have never seen it with a crowd control strap

Have heard different reports about the Loomis products, but as he doen't ship overseas, I'll take your word on it's value.

Keep working on it Al. When you can do it with either hand you will be able to do it with both hands at once...most of the time...with lots of practice.

Mr. Hyde--I had a similar experience several years back at Walt Disney World. We were taking a ferry from one part of the resort to another and one of the dock attendants was tossing a heavy (probably two inch thick) mooring line onto the cleats to secure the boat. He just casually tossed the line on the ground (it seemed) and every time landed around the cleat in a fully tied figure eight knot. After I watched this in fascination for a bit, he did several one-handed knots as well, just for fun. Very impressive. Practice truly does make perfect.

Great story

Henry Hay talks about this somewhere in Amateur Magicians Handbook. That guy you meet who can do one trick or stunt incredibly well but never really learns anything else

Here's a video commentary on a practice session from 5 years ago.

You will hit that knot practically every time if you turn your thumb down, and you throw the rope from about waste height.

I deliberately do not do that. I learned without the use of the forefinger, this was a goof tape from a post about 4 years ago.
But thanks.

I learn how to do the one handed knot from 'the relentless ring and string
routine' DVD with Bob Miller and Dj Ehlert. On the DVD Bob seem to be able
to do it every time and incorporated the one handed knot as part of his
relentless ring and string routine.

Can someone please recommend a book containing rope and knot effects as the one mentioned? Thanks you very much.
