What is the best effect using a gimmick that doesn't take a lot of hard sleights?

Easiest gimmick that I can think of is the good ol' Scotch and Soda set.

It doesn't have to be the EASIEST, just pretty basic.

Forget it; I found I was more fearful of the gaff going wrong than learning a purely sleight of hand version of almost everything.

Redstreak et al;
The gimmick is only as good as the routine or application. The application can be easy or difficult. For example, there is a wonderful penetration of a stack of quarters through a spectator's hand called 'Whisper'. It uses a gimmick. The gimmick is special for that trick. There are gimmicks that are great for LOTS of tricks. These tend to have applications that require more sleight of hand since the gimmick is a general or utility item. There is the trade between utility and ease of use. The special case mechanics tend to be easier while the general case or utility mechanics tend to require more effort from the performer to make the trick happen. Please consider the skill level of the recipiant. And let us know what your constraints are for price. There is a guy named Todd who makes WONDERFUL and truly BEAUTIFUL coin gimmicks and he sells them in sets so you get all the coins needeed for the standard version of the trick. Also, if they already do some coin magic, what can they do already and what kinds of effects are they working on now?

You asked for the ONE, GIMMICKED coin effect to KNOCK'EM DEAD! (My emphasis)
Do the cigarette through the quarter. It uses a coin that everyone is familiar with, looks absolutely impossible, and there are several ways to "get into it" and "out of it" that are deceptive and relatively easy. Don Alan had a great way to get into the trick: He asked who had any change in thier pocket. When someone volunteered a handful, Don would say, "let's see what you've got there..." and push the coins around in the spectators hand as if trying to decide what to use. Finally he would take a quarter from the handful and say, "This will do...". Next, he borrowed a cigarette, lit it, laid it down, lit end on the quarter, which was laying flat on his left fingers. After a minute, during which he told a joke or two, he announced that the heat had sufficiently softened the metal. Then he lifted the cigarette off the coin, put the coin in Spellbound position, and did the penetration. Finished up by removing the cigarette and tried returning it to the owner, who was hesitant to take it. Don then stopped and put it out. This gave him plenty of time and misdirection to switch the gaff for a regular coin and then, when attention was off the cigarette and back on the coin, to return it to the spectator. Don always had a tag line to finish up, and the "cigarette through" was no different. I won't tell you his, but I'm sure you can think of something. I say, "careful, it's still hot!" as I blow on the coin to cool it before returning it. It cost you a quarter every time you do the trick, but it is probably worth it... That's what I'd do if I was looking for just ONE killer gaffed coin trick. Best, PSC

Chosse, nice post... do you know Karrell Fox's bit?
He would have her hold the coin, by the edge, over the mouth of a bottle and have the spec close her eyes...he would push the pen thru the coin and it would fall into the bottle. He then said to open your eyes. She would be baffled as to how the pen got in the bottle. He would then say to the others watching, tell her how it got there. When they said "he pushed the pen through your quarter" it would farther fry here brain... Kinda like paper balls over the head.

Nickles to dimes is a really easy trick, it is easy to build a decent presentation for and it isn't as expensive as some of the others mentioned. I don't know how good of a friend this gift is for.
