I took the plunge. Intrigued by spectator smelling hand with no scent and then smelling it without the magician being near. Your thoughts? |

THis is an interesting effect for a seance. It could make a believer out of many. Especially if the bereaved's loved one had a favorite fragrance and it happened to be one of your control frangrances.
"If Lila had a frangrance she could send you, what would it be? What one would be a message from her that all is well?"

I like what says another guy about another product:
"The dealer rooms are full of magicians who think that they can "buy" real magic. They don't understand that "real magic" is created by the magician and not by the trick."

I didn't say it was a bad idea and to be newbies or not has nothing to do with it.
I just talk about to put some thinking in what you watch. THINK

I got to go check my library. ( Oh, where did he do the move? Just look at where the footage begins and the spec is holding her hands already in position. Anyway how did they get there? ) I won't say more - but c'mon. I know this has been done published as I've been doing this already - and I know I didn't invent it! Or perhaps I just time traveled. Hopefully someone else can find the reference as I hate combing though books... argh.

OK, but he let her smell her hands and she smells nothing.
AFTERWARDS (and he does not touch her anymore) she smells the perfume. IF it is "ashes on the palm" then it must be something that only begins to smell when it got warmer.(when she rubs her hands) If it is an honest trailer, I find it not bad at all. |

To belabour the obvious:
A good portion of the value of this one to magicians and mentalists will be the thought that went into the gimmick. It's cleverness and practicality. To obtain your choices without being obvious? Very nice. If it is impractical, it is useless. If it is practical, it is powerful, but can be much more than just a strolling stunt. So no one will know if this is Krap or Krystal until someone sees or gets one. Parmenion's objection (having them shove their nose into their cupped hands) is moot to Americans in general...we don't care. Sniff away, no embarrassment there. A question arises, how long does the scent last?...if it lasts a long time, it will be obvious its a perfume....the less time it lasts, the better for the magic. Having the scent fade quickly will be almost as magical as it appearing. Having it on the hands for the next hour would not be the best effect.

I agree with the above post. This is an incredibly powerful effect in the hands of a competent performer and with more thought given to the method/presentation/scripting/everything really.
I have seen this idea before in print, just can't recall where. I agree also about the smell lingering too long... Anyway off to have a play around with some ideas. This thread has served one purpose, sparking my imagination into creating my own scent based routine. Now lets make this thread disappear, this idea (done WELL) is too good to be public. Aw

In no way is what is being offered a new idea. Scentalism is a effect by Banacheck or Gerard I cannot remember now, been so long since I was introduced to it.(unpublished I believe). Where he takes you through an imaginary journey through a field of flowers. They mentally pick a flower and mimic picking the flower up and crushing the petals in their hands and then asked to smell their hands after they crushed up the imaginary flower and their hands smell JUST like the freely thought of flower..it is ridiculously beautiful.
To make them smell a perfume scent is a far cry (great game) from what the above mentioned offers you. There was a very select few of us (dan hauss, b. smith, dan white, and some others) that were made privy to this effect and allowed to perform it for our audiences. I used to have this on me everyday. It is a show stopper. Do not see this as anything new at all. And the scent for scentalism last for about 2-3 min after the effect is over, then just as in their imagination, the scent is gone. JM |

So you're saying while its not new, Banachek or Gerard limited its release to a few so this may be a wise investment...perhaps as the above post said that the delivery system to us as magicians is what will be nice

It's 'Any Drink Called For' for the ladies.
But cheaper, easier, packs flat...etc. As a Hypno stunt: Walk along and do 4-5 folks, each will swear they smell a different flower...the very one you commanded them to smell. They'll also swear to their friends it was as real as it can get. Interesting....It all stands or falls on the gimmick...I hope the gimmick is a great one.

I remember a trick years ago where you shook there hand hello and took them on a journey and they would taste lemons or something...unfortunately it was some toxic cream or something absorbed into bloodstream and you'd taste...too bad that didn't have a workable solution...

I wasn't privy to the Banachek stuff etc. but I've been doing it anyway for years... my gimmick costs less than 1 dollar... you do need a pocket for mine mind you!....holy molly guys, you can build it yourself easily enough if you stop and think - its like basic Tarbell concepts... or 13 Steps... !!! tip: Equiv. is a great thing to add to make things a lot easier. Anyhoo -everything old is new again! (I can't find it yet but I believe this may be also something Ted Lesley did or Larry Becker.... hmmm.) Anyway - let us know how it rates when you get it! In the meantime. I am happy to share my method in Howdeedoit down below - not this fellow's method
