Royal Roundup
Repeat Royal Marriages ...among many others are my current favorites. I have dozens of tricks marked with sticky tabs on my agenda to do. These books are great and I can only add my voice to the others that have expressed such. I believe that if this series had been titled "Nick Trost's Unbelieveable Card Miracles"...or something like that...it would be much more popular. |

I only own the latter book (Card Magic of Nick Trost)...
Intuition is my fav... I also like: 18 Card Poker. 4 Ace Vanish & Recovery. Flapjack Aces. Trost on Reset. Elevator Cards - Trost Version. Ambitious Ace, Deuce, Trey. To name a few...the book is full of gems IMHO. Cardamagically, Dom

Automatic Lie Speller
It looks so impossible and so fair! One of the best of its kind.

Thanks Barry...I'll have to revisit that particular effect.

Automatic Lie Speller is one of my favorites. Many years ago I performed it as part of my Close-Up-Act the the Knights of Galion convention in Galion Ohio. Nick Trost was in attendance. After the Close-Up-Show he complimented me on the effect and then asked where I got it! He had published it in his column in the New Tops Magazine and forgotten all about it! Later I taught the trick to Gene Anderson who uses it as the finale to his Si Stebbins routine.
Another of my favorites the Nick's version of the Ten Card Poker Deal which he calls Showdown. It does use some gaffs, but it's a great routine and fools magicians as well as lay people. If you do this, PM me. I have a little work on it which I'll be happy to share with you. Dennis "Denny" Loomis

Here is a list from three of the volumes of the Subtle Card Magic series. I have volume 4, but have only skimmed it. I WILL however say that in v.4 the Gemini Twins chapter has some killer stuff. [I have The Card Magic of Nick Trost, but it gets a LOT of love, and the series tends not to get as much].
Diminishing Poker Deal, v.3 pp. 695-697 Steve Forte's version of Nick Trost's High Card Poker Deal, v.3, pp. 692-693 Seven Card Stud Using High Cards, v.3, pp. 687-688. Three Way Do As I Do, v.3, pp. 606-608 Fly Circus, v.3, pp. 806-811 Super Split, v.3, pp. 771-774 Quadruple Match Up, v.2, pp. 305-307 Quick Ace Opener, v.2, pp. 362-363 Topsy-Turvy Aces, v.2, pp. 363-364 A Stacking Demonstration, v.2, pp. 389-392 The Sub-Trunk Mystery, v.2, pp. 465-467 The Ambitious Jacks, v.2, pp. 471-473 Face to Face Coicidence, v.2, pp. 552-554 Jazz 1-2-3-4 Revisited, v.1, pp. 145-146 Fifteen Card Mystery, v.1, pp. 150-151 Trost's Open Prediction, v.1, pp. 153-154 Revolving Aces - A Clean Version, v.1, pp. 154-156 Destiny Deck, v.1, pp. 173-176 Obviously there are many more, but I selected these in an attempt to cover a lot of bases if anyone wishes to explore. Some are FASDIU, Some require a small set up easily done on the fly, one requires that you create a deck - easily done, one or two require extensive setups but the effects are strong openers or closers, and one uses ESP cards. |

From the Card Magic of Nick Trost, the following are my faves:
Auto Lie Speller Trik Cards Flapjack Aces Courtship Matched Picture Cards 18 Card Poker Deal Kings Royale Bottoms, Seconds and Centres Spectator's Card Trick (but with "Untouched" enhancements) Time Will Tell (though, Your Fateful Hour from Card College Lighter is substantially better IMO) Significant 5 Spot (though, as above, Voila Aces from Card College Lighter is better IMO) Elevator Revelator (Olram version) Double Discovery 8 Card Brainwave High Card Poker (Sal Piacente has a good version of this on one of his DVDs) Wow, that is a long list! What a great book. Justin PS Steven Keyl has a number of good videos on his site demoing 5 or 6 Trost tricks. |

The Total Card Matching Routine from Subtle Card Creations, Volume 3. I've written about this one in the Secret Sessions area (Book Gems thread). I've been performing the heck out of it. It's a great routine, and I even have a lead-in which dispels any notion of a pre-arrangement (especially when combined with the shuffle). Try this, you won't regret it.

For those unfamiliar with some of these great effects, a couple years ago I did a review of the book and demo'd a half dozen effects, most of which are mentioned above by various posters. Trost had the uncanny ability to distill an effect down to the bare wood and strip away unnecessary moves and sleights but still retain the impact. This is a real gem of a book.
