Why do you you need to select a specific forum? This causes different threads on the same subject! Even more importantly, why is it when you enter a forum, you cannot search through it? While the Magic Café is the greatest invention since rock n' roll, it seems unneccessarily time consuming to navigate.

Yeah, I agree. The Café's search engine leaves a lot to be desired.

Google's "site:" option will let you search nearly the entire site at once.

site:themagiccafe.com your search term here

It works for everything but the forums that are restricted to established members with 50 or more legit posts.

Think of it as job security, Dave. Since the management is apparently never gonna' fix it, they'll always need you to explain it.

Honestly, just a google search (not even searching the site) will still yield threads in The Magic Café. I've been on a thread for a subject, and then went googling to find more info, and the thread I was just on comes up in the top ten search results.

I google too and it does make it easier. That still doesn't negate the silliness of not being able to search within a forum. It's just not user friendly.

Stephon is correct. Often when I'm searching for something "global", many of the links point right back to the Magic Café. This is the most complete site anywhere for information on magic. I agree that the Café search engine is just stupidly frustrating, but it is absolutely the best source on the net, so we deal with it. (I just go directly to Google!)

They must like it this way or they'd change it.

Zombie, you act as if computer software is something you can just dig into and change to suit your desires...

It's not silliness. Did you read the topic I linked too? Sounds like you didn't. That topic explains exactly why we don't have a search all feature right now.

Free web-sites rarely have the cash on hand to upgrade to the latest and greatest hardware.

In this case, folks need to quit whining about a free web-site (The Magic Café) not being able to offer a full featured, state of the art, fast, and wide open hardware dependent search function.

There was a time when the current hardware had a site wide search feature enabled, and if you were around then, you remember those search heavy times as the times when Café pages wouldn't load at all. (this is why it was disabled). Of course this "slow down" brought out a bunch of whiners complaining about how slow the site was. Now the site is speedy, and folks are whining about how they can't search "site wide".

Try accepting what you've been offered with thanks........it's made available to you at no cost (and it's the best resource of its kind anywhere).
