I'd recommend a full size original Kovari Pom Pom Prayer Stick.

I have a full size Kovari Pom Pom Stick, and I second Rainboguy's recommendation. If you have to have a mini version, you may need to tweak whichever one you get to make it work for you. I have a Mikame one, and had to make some adaptations to it in order to get it to work smoothly. I would have expected more from a craftsman such as Mikame, and was disappointed that it doesn't work nearly as smoothly as the Kovari one. I've heard this from others who have Mikame's pom pom stick as well.

I just got one and I think it's great. I also own Mikame's versions but that one, as jkvand mentioned, doesn't work as fluently as Alan Wong's version.

I have owned both the Kovari and Mikame versions as well. I still own the Kovari and perform it regularly. As stated above the Mikame pole just doesn't perform smoothly, it was a disappointment. Kovari is great, though it is certainly not a pocket version. My recommendation would be to go with the full size Kovari. I would not trust the Mikame in performance without alterations. I did not try to alter mine, I sold it to a guy who collected Mikame items. He got a good price but not a good performance piece. Mikame normally makes great products. I have his die box, two card boxes, and key chain. All of those are great and make nice performance items, not just collectible pieces. The Alan Wong version may be a good option, I am not familiar with it. But unless the size really doesn't work for you, you cannot go wrong with the Kovari version.

To my knowledge the original Prayer Stick did not come apart. It was in some old time beginning magic sets and sold as a children toy in five and dime stores back in the day. As everyone has pointed out, the Luis Husted / Ali Bongo's Pom Pom stick is not anything alike. The original prayer stick only had the 4 ends move across from one another. That is what makes the Pom Pom Stick so genius. I believe the cheap imports are still making the original Prayer Stick, so if you can find some, must make operate like the Ali Bongo version.
A pocket size would make a good Saturday craft project. Everything to make on can be found in most hobby and craft stores. I did a little search on the Café, and a member mentioned there is such a thing called the "Devil Stick" that comes apart in the middle. You might want to look for something under that name by Royal Magic, aka Fun Inc. Just did a quick search, it is not listed as one of their products any longer. |

Another 'pom pom-like' mini version to consider is the one made by Kreis: "Connected".
The workings are similar to a normal pom pom stick but not exactly the same, it's a bit more ingenious in my opinion since you can shown the middle of the tube empty while everything is still connected and able to move. You can basically do the same as with a pom pom stick. What's also great is at the end you can hand everything out for examination (it is best to sit down on a table if you want to do that however). In any case it works great and isn't expensive at all. |

Is there any way to tighten the tube connection on Collector's Mini Pom Pom Stick by Alan Wong?? It's so loose, it slides out too easily.
