The subject says it all! Designing my site and looking for ideas to add to enhance it. Please post your links to great websites you've seen for childrens performers, or even your own (only if its good!)
Thanks, Ozzy |

I always liked pages made by Monster Creations. One day I'd like to have them design a web page for me. You can see their portfolio here: http://www.monster-creations.com/ . I particularly like this one: http://www.russbrownmagic.com/
I would also look at pages for really succesful children's magicians. They must be doing something right, right? Here are two of my favorite children's performers - I think they both have great web pages. http://www.kenscottmagic.com/ http://www.jameswand.com/ But you can really just go through anyone's profile here on the Café and see their site

Thanks, TKD27, I am honored!
That site was made several years ago. I have just updated my site for schools and will switch over the main site to the new design soon. Here is the new one. It literally just went up in the last few weeks. http://www.jameswand.org Best, James |

Wow James! Your website is incredible! I can easily see that those who visit your site would feel that they have to have your show. I see that you have a fire book picturred. Do you always perform that effect in the James Wand show? Do you ever have issues or situations where you cannot perform it. How do you inform the client that you use the effect(if you do)?
Ok...I have to go back and look at your site a while longer now. I am captivated by it. |

I never tell them in advance and I have never had a problem. There have been a few occasions when I have been expressly asked not to use fire beforehand. And on most of those occasions I have omitted it. |

If I did the fire book in a school show around New England, I would most likely get spoken to after the show as well as never be invited back and banned and put on a black list for school show performers. The Station Nightclub fire is still fresh in peoples minds and will be forever.

To use fire without getting permission first is a huge mistake, and shows a lack of responsibility, I believe.

I hesitate to mention my own website, but I think my webdesigner did an awesome job of capturing the essence of what I do and using the logo design as the basis for the design. It was truly a global effort. I live in the US, my web designer lives in Australia and my graphic designer lives in Norway. My web-designer is also a puppeteer and she contacted me through a puppetry forum and proposed a total re-design in order to capture the awesomeness of my artwork (which like I said before was designed by a gal from Norway who also happens to be a puppeteer). I know most of you here on this part of the forum are magicians so I am by no means trying to "butt in". I do enjoy reading things here and as my web-designer was working on the re-design of my website she helped me see some very important things to consider and I have had SO many clients comment to me that they LOVE my site. So, for what it's worth, take a peek. I am So thankful for the expert help from Naomi and Beatriz!

Ljl vent,
I'd like to see a headline on your homepage instead of the small button labeled "What I do". Although it's obvious what you do from the photo, I would like the homepage to "sell" a little bit more, if you see what I mean. I also think you have a great logo in the corner. I wish it were more prominent on the page.
"Don't run with those..."

Bridgewater, I do understand what you are saying. I had actually asked my web-designer the same thing and she said the idea was to keep them clicking deeper into your site. I may re-visit this with her - I actually had my graphic artist design a wonderful ad that I use quite often and maybe there is a way to incorporate that into the homepage. Thanks for the input - any specifc ideas would be welcome.

I use my phone almost exclusively for web access. If you're going to include mobile-friendly in your design, you may want to consider that not everyone has the latest iPhone. Some web pages are filled with elements that "slightly old" mobile systems have a hard time with.
Also Flash, some scripts (for photo slide shows and such) and some embedded video don't work well. If you can, give mobile users a link with the option to view your video directly on YouTube or Vimeo. Just some thoughts. (And don't bother with my site! It's in sad need of an update!) Ed |
