In marketing your magic business, what is the largest obstacle stopping you from achieving your goal(s)? Don't be shy, there are no wrong answers.

That is true benji what I should have said is this
I do not have problems marketing as I know effective methods those that do need to invest time in learning how to market and reach their goals and desires not in the next prop or trick because a prop or trick will never get you a gig but a marketing plan that is sustainable will. So no honestly no problems marketing big problems with people who do not invest in themselves to learn how to market effectivly. Jesse

Hopefully my speaking engagements will help sell me and what I have to offer. At least I will be in front of the right people. Charlie |

Laziness!
I can't remember a time in my life when I haven't had a long list of ideas, ideas I know will lead to bookings. I just can't get to them for a variety of reasons but mainly because I'm too lazy. This is also why I haven't bought any new books and such from the marketing guru's here in 15 years! I've know what I've got to do, I just have to do it. Isn't there a saying in marketing that goes something like this: You know what happens when you don't do marketing? Nothing!

Truth is, nobody is immune to the occasional sluggishness, and if we are completely honest with ourselves, we all do get a little bit lazy at times. How we got in the lazy mood isn't important--getting out of that mood is very important. The most successful people in the world have one thing in common, they all have a good source of motivation. They have narrowed the secret to success down to three words, "Do It Now." Tom

Gentlemen,
Thank you for all your GREAT feedback! I appreciate your honesty very much! I have teamed up with an amazing friend and marketing expert who has a love for magic. Although he is not a magician, he is a HIGHLY paid marketing consultant who has agreed to help me bring some very powerful techniques and strategies to help that elite category of magicians looking to take their magic and business to the next level. The above replies will be the foundation of topics as well as much more that will be included in this dynamic system soon to be released. Thank you, Michael |

Go for it Michael.
Sometimes a little shared experience or a few fresh ideas is all it takes to get one moving. Good luck with it. Tom

Sounds like more "pre-hype" from another "guru in the making".
Always be aware of marketing hype and text like "some very powerful techniques and strategies to help that elite category of magicians looking to take their magic and business to the next level." You can smell it in the air. Stay tuned... |

Mind pro
that's why I answered the way I did in the first place I have been through a few gurus in my time and the truth is solid marketing is solid marketing do it and succeed, don't do it and you will not. If magicians hypnotists and menalists would only focus and do the things that are in any basic marketing book many of them would be a lot richer

Personally, I prefer to look outside of the entertainment market for ideas. In fact, one of my favorite concepts came from a national plumbing company. I had a pipe burst, called them and was blown away. They are now my company of choice and that technique has landed me some major paydays.
Amateur entertainers tend to copy what they see others doing - tricks, jokes, pictures, web site copy and marketing materials. Taking ideas from a different market and adapting them for entertainment can give buyers get a whole different experience. |

Selling your act to moms (PTA's) that have to get committee approval. They often forget to present it, are too busy, or don't have the ability or motivation to properly pitch your show so it is approved.
