Like just about everything, its about audience management, rhythmn and timing... you don't want anyone sitting on your shoulders, in a bunk-bed or standing directly next to you, side by side, staring straight into your hands...
written in a jokey/friendly way I should add! I don't know emoticons... I would say I have dry hands, there's nothing in this that I can see at least - that means any skin type is advantageous over another... back to angles, I would say from my point of view and field of vision, unless have someone directly to one side of me, I would have no fears in "doing the work" - but its hard to say, as I joked above, just about finding your own timing and audience management..."you" are in control though, something we should never forget...

No, not silly at all. It is just others were asking about T-Rex so I wanted to be clear.

Lets talk about The Dr. Billet Tear here.
This is an excellent release to the mentalist community. The tear is very effective and Bills thoughts and justifications are worthy of careful study. Congrats Dr. Bill!!!

Got it and love it! Extremely practical. PDF contains 24pages of painstaking details and 4 embedded videos included. This is for the real workers (magicians and mentalists alike). $35 is a bargain! You can't go wrong with this because you will actually use this! Dr. Bill is a nice guy as well. I had trouble viewing the videos and got it all straightened out! Talk about great customer service. Don't wait to get it because you'll regret it! I know that sounds cliche but it's true. Anywho, that is my 2 cents.

Hi professional magicians , my always asked question (a beginner's question) is:
Can an entry level hobbyist learn and perform this easily? I am so averse to reading anything (partly because of macular degeneration combined with a lazy "i don't want to read: I will wait till the movie comes out" gene/chromosone thing). I know me: a magic buying machine, and I trust the Café reviews so I will buy this tomorrow (PAY DAY--YAHOO!! ) but do you think in 30 minutes to an hour a beginner's beginner will do ok with it? Thanks for your thoughts guys. your friend, Alex |

P.S. I just read my above post and thought: someone may understandably ask: "Hey guy, why are you even
asking this since you will have it in your hands soon and be able to see for yourself?" I know, am just anxious PLUS I seldom open much of what I buy til weeks later because of time constraints and because most of what I buy is really being saved for my son. I tried to read the directions for: "Horse of a Different Color" and, as simple as it's directions probably are to most...I was clawing my eyes and pulling out what little hair I have left. (Note: I will pay a small fortune, somehow, for any re-appearing hair illusions ) If someone says: "It's Easy Alex, don't sweat it, this tear is simple and sweet", I will jump right into trying to learn it the day it arrives. If the consensus is: "Might take a few reads through the directions" I will wait til Summer Vacation. Whether it has a 10 minute learn-time or not, it looks really exciting. your friend, Alex |

In answer to the burning billet question, I thought that a tea infuser would be a good container for the paper.
You can burn it and not have to worry about stray embers wafting off and starting a fire. You would still need all the necessary pyro licsences to burn something on stage, but it would be a safety element. Just put the billet inside and close it, then burn it with a lighter from outside. Like this one http://www.amazon.com/Grip-EZ-Tea-Infuse......+infuser Or this one http://www.amazon.com/Progressive-Stainl......+infuser

Very clever idea, Magus! Thanks for sharing.
Alex, even if you don't want to post your experience here, please email me at wcushman@bellsouth.net because I'm EXTREMELY curious how it turns out for you! I predict you'll learn TDBT with relative ease. There, I'm committed! An open prediction no less. |

This is a copy of what I posted over as a review on the Penguin site but it's equally applicable here:
When you get this, you're not getting a "trick". What you are getting is a powerful tool that in the right hands will allow you to perform all manner of strong routines on stage, close up and perhaps even more importantly in impromptu situations. I've never hid the fact that I adore Dr. Bill's thinking. With this latest release I find myself smiling again with those frequent "AHA!" moments that I've found lacking in so many other releases. Aside from the actual tear, you get his 7 Deadly Sins routine and his Justifying Your Gaze essay. Studied carefully these comprise a lesson in mentalism. His thoughts on what he refers to as the Cognitive Shift - which can be applied to so much more than a center tear - allow you to give the impression of real mind reading when you start to reveal details that are never written down. As for the other person who posted asking if it's supposed to be a challenge tear, the answer is no. Although this tear is clean enough to fool even the most astute observer, if you're performing it as a challenge "try and catch me peek your info" type of tear, then I you're doing it wrong. Again the routine and essay that accompany the tear will help in understanding all of the nuances that go into making something like this successful. The only downfall with the 7 Deadly Sins routine would be that it's not something you'd want to include in a magic set since it's something special that when performed correctly will probably come across as "real". For me, that's a good problem to have If you can't tell, I thoroughly enjoyed this Thanks again Bill! |

Thanks Bahama! I think you are the first person to mention the Cognitive Shift; I'm glad you appreciate it's utility no matter how you "gather data."

Review: Bill Cushman-The Dr's Billet Tear from AmirasIdeas.com
Dr. Bill brings us a new center tear called "Dr´s Billet Tear". It´s really necessary a new CT when several are available? In my opinion, if this brings something new, is worth it. And man...what a great CT this one is ! Price and Description: $35.00 at http://www.outlaw-effects.com/store/the-......ear.html My opinion: 34 page eBook. Nice design and clear explanation with videos embedded on the same document. There is a lot of controversy in this release due the fact a recent CT published by other author who claims that "The Dr´s Billet Tear" is just one of his takes from his book. I will not get deep into this, because I don't really care. "The Dr´s Billet Tear" is basically a very simple way to get the info from a folded-in-quarters billet. I had old conversations with Dr Bill, sharing ideas and one of them was his CT (not named "The Dr´s Billet Tear" on that time). I saw it and I fall in love with it. Now is far better with this great quality offering that gives us not just a direct approach, but also psychological and performance ideas that will place you on a mindreader´s pedestal. A tip for you. I personally never tear my own cards, I think that isn't a good practice in the real world. Who in hell tears his own card?. Maybe some business cards from other persons that I have sometimes on my wallet, even blank cards or receipts. I use in my repertoire several billet techniques. My own "Bottom Tear" IDS, AN, own unpublished Center Tear and others. I tried to learn "R2-D2", but it was too complex for me. I read "The Dr´s Billet Tear" and I know that I will use it. Rate: 9,6/10 If you want a solid, simple and easy center tear, you must get "The Dr´s Billet Tear" Recommended

In some parts of the middle east tearing up a persons business card would be considered a huge insult and even though that person was not present the insult would not go unnoticed. I would go with blank cards. Of course if using blank cards remember to edge or pencil mark them so you know the correct orientation if you pre-fold them. Mark |
