Well, heck, as barren as this place has been lately I figured I would take a stab in the dark as to why.

Is everyone moving on to greener pastures now that every kid who's seen Freakshow and has an internet connection can become a fire-eating, glass-eating, sword-swallowing, blockhead guru?

Are we just being even more cautious than normal to not reveal anything to the marks?

Are we actually being altruistic and avoiding talking about subjects that could get amateurs hurt?

I admit I'm green, but I'm picking up some awfully strange vibes lately.

What is your opinion on what the show Freakshow might mean for the sideshow community? Will that zest leave? Will it become uninteresting in the public eye?

I started up a group on Facebook and I think it might have taken some steam out of this forum. I'm not certain about this, and if it is the case, it was not my intention.

I don't know, Mr. Robbins; most of the posts on your Facebook group seem to be from people who hardly ever (or plain never) posted here.

Dorian: I doubt that sideshow will ever become uninteresting, but I wonder if it will make sideshow stunts the "in" thing. (I hear something similar happened a few years back with Jim Rose's tv show.) Can I ask how you found The Magic Café and got interested in this kind of stuff?

Found about this from Todd Robbins aside comment while at Sideshow School in Coney.

Got into this because it is real.

Part of why the FB group seems distant, I believe, is due to that most posters here do not have FB (myself included). So it may be the other way around.

Personally, as a kid I always went to the PA Fair every year as it was held at the Phila. Racetrack in Bensalem where I grew up. The games and cons never interested me. I loved going into the sideshow tent, and yup I paid to see the blow-off just to see what it was "this year". When I grew up and moved out I stopped going. The Jim Rose "phenomenon" came into fruition just about the same time that I was at my peak of my passion for body piercing. I was very drawn to the pierced weightlifting act and immediately wanted to excell far beyond anyone in the field. I never thought it was "cool". It was (and still is) exciting and fun. Same thing applies to my metalwork... the enjoyment of the work and the self edification it brings. I believe if anyone enters into any field for the wrong reasons it will definitely show. To seasoned professionals and the "fun seekers", the poseurs stand out in stark contrast.

I have all but abandoned this site for the simple reason it has become Boring...It should pick up here tho...Now that I am all but gone...

Things change. This site took the steam from Slim Price's site. Since then it has had it's ups and downs with pros, amateurs and voyeurs. There have been friends made, friends lost and strangers kicked around. For me I don't like the fact that I have no control over my post after I click submit. If I change my mind about something, and it happens, I can't change my post. I also don't like how public it is. Google your name or company with "Magic" and see if it brings up all of your posts here.

I am in a small private/secret group of comics on fb. I love that I can say what ever I want and my family, friends and fans can't read it. It's like having a private party of pros hanging out and telling fart jokes. We talk about the biz too. And by talk about I mean complain.

So, for me, I still come here to poke around but not to make new friends or search for advice or teach. Facebook makes that so much easier.

Slim steered me here, after Junior destroyed his old group. As Will says, it has ups and downs.

I still think it was better when the only news you got on carnivals and ten in ones was from the A.B.
