Since you have to perform a switch in any way - I'd second the BELANGER Coin (which is IMHO the fairest chnace, you know...?)
And do not take a cig or a rolled-up banknote ... take a nail. a toothpick. A needle. A ..?.. . Get the idea? PRESENTATION!!! AGAIN: PRESENTATION!!!

The Johnson's without a doubt looks great. I usually carry both, plan on using the Johnson's but if the people seem grabby or constantly ask to see more, then I use the second one instead. People don't usually want to see everything you do, so if you've already gone out of your way on a previous trick to show everything's on the up and up, then you usually get some slack later on.
I forget, but I think it's Burger, that recommends making the switch as you pull the coin off dropping it right into the spectators hand. Please correct me if I'm wrong but the result is great. Also the vanishing cigerette is wonderful, but it's hard to find people standing around smoking anymore. So I always do the 'thru the coin' first. Light the smoke then vanish it. It's the perfect follow up, at least for me it is. Then I take the quarter back and do something else with it. |

I would like to come up with a method of fixing the penetration. so the cig is trapped in the coin and can be given back as a souvenir. I would imagine you would make these up before hand and switch it in at the right point.
I would look at cutting a cig and glueing it to the coin with a resin adhesive.

Don't use a cigarette, use a short pencil, like golfers use. Drill a hole in a coin and stuff the pencil in (tight fit) and do the el switcheroo for a finish.

By its nature it would be disposible (not the coin), the coin could be used as normal (no hole) by the spec to buy stuff later, the cig would be glued either side so when broken off some tobacco would be left (trapped) on the metal. 1 x normal coin. 1 x cig. 1 x glue.

Pete, you got me thinking. That pencil and perhaps more than one quarter. Remember the scotty york thing with the paper tube and coins on top of a volunteer's hand. you tap the top of the setup with the pen to manage the dirty work...
Anyway, imagine what would happen if you tried to repeat the trick... You tap with the pencil but something goes wrong, and it gets stuck. The volunteer says ouch and you look and find the pencil through the coins. You try to push the pencil through but it just stays there. Perhaps you give the thing away. Now... perhaps a gaff that permits you to do the 4D Man bit...

I don't think I like the idea of gluing a cig to the coin. It gives a path to a method, false as it is. I would rather that the cig penetrated, left a hole and after examination, was restored. You could also follow up with a bent quarter commenting that it is still soft due to the experience.

Ammar used to do the pecil through quarter and then hand out the pencil still through the quarter as a gift. Then on the pencil was contact info for the client he was working for. You can find the routine in his book.

Ok, How about this.
What if you made a cigarette from flash paper so when you go too light it WHOOSH, you are left with the solid coin and no cig. (this would be while the cig is thru the coin)

If you want to come around the cigarette theme you can find a variation with a tooth pick instead of a cigarette at http://www.spellonu.com It is however more "micro magic", but you can drop the coin with the penetrating tooth pick in the spectator's hand and then immediately take it back and drag the coin off and drop both objects back in the spectator's hand for examination. There are some nice handling aspects that is not possible with CTC.
It is called To Pick A Coin.
