Just came back from a restaurant gig where the spectators thought I was a god with a small "g".
I had a table, an older couple, who were on their first date. They were a little hesitant to see any magic since they've never experienced a close-up magician before......Anyway I did a few routines which they really enjoyed and I wanted to finish with a card effect I generally do for couples. I had the lady pull a card at random (totally free choice) from shuffled spread deck. I asked if she wanted to change her mind which she did. She settled on a card and I asked her to name any card that comes to mind. She said "The Ace of Spades"..(I had no clue) I said with confidence .. "Turn the card over." It was the Ace of Spades.... I turned to the gentleman and asked him to do the same. Totally free choice. He settled on a card with the option of changing his mind. I asked him to name any card.. he said Three of Diamonds. I told him to turn the card over....Baaaaam Three of Diamonds. The looks on their faces was priceless...in fact the look on my face was priceless but I didn't let it show. This has only happened one time before where two spectators guessed correctly in the same routine. I do a funny bit when they don't guess correctly, which works, but when you hit it it's priceless.

Darn~ I can't recall for sure if it was Terry Seabrooke or Pat Page. "He" (performing in 'working men's clubs' in London)would come on, holding a playing card (back to audience)shouting,"Name a card, name a card!" Someone in the crowd would yell out the name of a card. "He" would look at the face of the card, and yell back, "You're f*****g wrong!!!" For the crowd he was performing for, it played! I often wondered what "he" would have done, if the guy in the crowd had named the correct card!!! Then, I decided, that being a showman, he would have bowed and quit!

Similar experience had a customer randomly call me and ask I'm thinking of a card what is it?
Confidently I said Jack of Diamonds..... He screamed an explicative and hung up... I think I nailed it.

It is so awesome when coincidences just happen like that. Although I may try to replicate this effect somehow, maybe ask them to name a card and then have them seemingly freely pick that card.

Tried it again tonight for a couple that just got engaged. Just to preface, I have the spectators guess cards for Carl Andrews' version of Anniversary Waltz called Hula Fusion. The effect still has punch even if the cards aren't guessed but I try it anyway.....
Regarding the couple, I had the girl pick any card at random and she guessed the Ace of Spades... It was the Ten of Clubs.... I said "Oh darn, you messed up" (this always gets a laugh) I then turned to her future husband, same free selection, he said.. Two of Spades....Baaaam it was the Two of Spades...... The girl looked at me and said "Why didn't it work for me"? I told her to wait because she was going to do something even more amazing........ She made both their signatures appear on the same card..... She was ecstatic........ I try this every time I perform...most times it doesn't hit but when it does...WOW !!!
