Betcha guys didn't think I'd have the brass to post a review after I caught the shows yesterday but here it is.

Doug Conn

Doug's show ran about 10-12 minutes. His audience interaction was fabulous. He was on a fantastic spot in the Quarter which was isolated from other performers but BUSY as heck. In the early afternoon he's got mostly all shade on his area which makes it more comfy for the audience.

Terrific two cup routine with a quick load sequence. In fact I think my only complaint is I wanted more! Wait! Isn't that the old saying? "Leave 'em wanting more?"

Terrific show and any of you who haven't seen it, go check it out. Doug is a fantastic showman and let's a welcoming and approachable persona shine.

Dante
http://www.bestofneworleans.com described him as a Benny & Joon, Johnny Depp meets Groucho Marx. They were right. Dante interacts wonderfully with his audience, both young and...not young.

Quick wit...I put my hands in my pocket and then he looked at me—I knew I was about to get slayed. He's extraordinarily entertaining.

His cups—fabulous two cup routine although, I must admit I'm partial to three cups.

His final load—as a magician I KNEW it was coming. But I didn't KNOW it was coming until after the dirty work is done. The guy owned me with every move. (I'm such a sucker.)

Both of these guys are consumate professionals. Both very approachable. I couldn't detect even an ounce of elitism or arrogance in either of them.

For anyone headed to the Quarter, if Doug and Dante are around, go check out their shows. They're worth every penny.

And throw some dough in their hats too! They work hard for it...in fact, there may not be anyone in the Big Easy who works harder than these two.

Cheers guys! And thanks for some fantastic shows!

P.S. Sara and I also saw Peter Bennet aka "Glass Harper" out by Riverwalk. He's a delightful guy who plays the glass harmonica. If you ever see him, let him play a tune for ya and drop a few buck in his cup. He's great!

Vernon,

Hey thanks. I don't know that congrats are in order. I'd settle for, "You lucked out dude!"

Got the cups two days ago and they are beauties. Next year I'm going to get a silver set and I can't wait. Smile

Cheers mate and glad you walked away with something grand! Gary is far too nice to do things like that. I'm grateful for his generosity.

Add me to the lucky list (though not as lucky as Robert!). I also "won" a set of re-spins. Can't wait to hold 'em!

Allow me to join Robert in open thanks to Gary Animal!

Hey Doug, what's the weather been like over in the Quarter?

I'm itching to get over there for a day and do a few shows.

What's the long arm of the law saying about street performers now?

Thanks!

I haven't been out for 3 weeks now!
I still have the "snifflies" and today has been the first day it's been anywhere near warm enough to work (I'm from up north... the cold used to not bother me... but after living here for 16 years, I'm spoiled... when it's 50ish (and windy) I have a hard time doing 'the work'.) Regardless: I'll be out for Sugar Bowl if I have to work in thermal underwear) IMO: It's the best time of the year here.

Re: Johnny Law
Not sure what's the latest scoop.
I'll make a post as soon as I hear anything new.

till then, if not sooner,
Conn

Ted, you'll kick it for sugar bowl...
As I said, it's the be$t.
Hopefully it'll warm up.

BTW:
If I'm not 'out there'
I'm usually here... and you're welcome "here" anytime.

418 Pacific Ave.

Cross the ferry, you can walk "here" from there (7 blocks)

Note: If you go down the hill from the Ferry, you'll find the Dry Dock Café. Angela (my Sig. other)is there most weekdays... Ask her for directions (and a free beer!)

Perhaps we can get the "Rock" out of the house and meet for a soiree @ the Dry Dock (he likes to 'hang' there with visiting magi.) Good time = 4ish-till (kids are home from school to hang with the toddler & Dry Dock is usually slow.)

call me when ya get in
