What follows is an updated version of an effect by Al Koran called The Gold Medallion. The performer displays a small ornate veneer wood box which he states contains two items. Inside are a limited edition medallion and a small sealed envelope. These special medallions the story goes where carried or worn in the past by sailors for good look when passing through the infamous Bermuda Triangle. The medallion is now shown to a spectator who can see the various symbols and numbers engraved on it. After explaining what the various symbols and numbers mean the performer states he will now attempt to mentally transmit a number to them between 1 and 1000. The spectator now reveals the number they mentally received which is then shown to match the one written on an "authenticity slip" in a sealed envelope that was inside the box. No forcing of the number is required and can be different every time Comes complete with hand crafted medallion, veneer wood box, leather note pad, custom made envelopes, authenticity slips and stylish ballpoint pen. The medallion and wood box have been exclusively manufactured by Magic Wagon Thailand. http://www.tonycurtismagic.com/thebermudamedallion.html

The real, relevant questions are: What makes this "updated?" What are the benefits of this version over other versions?

I have had the honour of watching Steve develop his superb variation of Koran's Medallion over the last 12 months or so, and more recently, seen the beautiful production quality of the props from Tony Curtis and Magic Wagon.
Instead of stating that the chosen three digit number is 'engraved' on the reverse of the medallion, Steve Cook's version openly shows the number was predicted in the form of the 'limited edition number', printed on a folded 'authenticity slip'. This unique prediction is removed by a spectator from a sealed mini-envelope, which has been in full view within the Bermuda Triangle Medallion presentation box throughout and can be kept by them as a momento of the unexplainable experience they were witness to. There are some very nice subtleties and nuances (look closely at the advertising image above), which I will not go into at this pre-launch stage but suffice to say, this modern day twist of a classic effect, is a practical, interesting and baffling effect, which is ideal for close-up, cabaret or stage presentation. There will only be a limited number of these produced...so get one..you will use it!! Paul Mc.

I would just like to clarify a few points about my effect: 'The Bermuda Medallion'. This effect was inspired by Al Koran's classic effect: 'The Gold Medallion', however, this version uses a completely different method and offers a new twist on the original concept, as mentioned in the post by caigy. It also offers an engaging story-line (ala 'The Bermuda Triangle'),and adds logic to the premise in the form of a limited edition medallion. I never quite saw any real logic in Koran's original effect. Why would you carry around with you a medallion which (apparently) is engraved with three selected numbers? What would you do with it afterwards? It probably flew past laymen and maybe it's not really important to many. This new version however, adds logic to the proceedings due to the fact, as mentioned, that the medallion is produced as a limited edition. The number(s)freely chosen by the spectator(s)are seen to be printed on an 'authenticity slip', which has been inside the box (with the medallion) from the outset. The medallion therefore is never marked in any way, but is simply used to aide the story-line. I must state that I still believe the original Koran routine to be basically a really wonderful concept, but I felt, personally, that it needed an intriguing plot and a dose of logic. I hope that those who purchase 'The Bermuda Medallion' will look at it in this light. It has taken a year or so to develop it, and the combination of Tony Curtis and Magic Wagon have lifted the aesthetics of the thing to another level. I sincerely hope those who purchase and use it constantly will be well-rewarded for their initial outlay. Thank you.
