Would it be possible to get a notification when someone responds to a post you posted or if someone comments in a post you commented in. This would be helpful so one doesn't need to keep checking.

Only if you are the originator of the thread, there is a box you can check to be notified whenever anyone responds.
Be aware that if you check that box, you will continue receiving notifications FOREVER on that thread. Only someone on the Café staff will be able to turn it off if you later change your mind.
