Sorry if this has been addressed somewhere else or if this is the wrong category, but I tried to do a search and couldn't come up with anything.

Does anyone know of a decent deck of smaller cards for kid's hands? My little girl is really getting into trying to "work" with my standard Bicycles but they're too big for her. The miniature ones I see seem like they'd be too small. Is there something in between?

Thanks.

Look for bridge decks. They are the same length as Poker cards, but narrower width. They are even available in Bicycle, but you'll have to hunt for them. More commonly, you'll find cheap bridge decks at places like Walgreens. They usually have decorative art backs, instead of the typical "back" designs. These often become nice decks for fanning routines, producing a variety of color patterns when fanned different directions.

How old is your daughter?

She may just be unfamiliar with cards.

There are many things you can do with a poker deck even as a kid once you've practiced.
I was doing a tabled shuffle and dealing pretty well at 8 just to play card games with my brothers.

Are you talking about sleights and pa**ing or just shuffling and dealing and such?

If she learns with poker size it'll gradually get easier as her hands grow (and she gains experience) but if she learns with bridge she'll have to re-learn with poker at some point.

Let her struggle some. It is part of the journey.

Thanks Michael and Mary. She's six, but really likes to hold the deck and flip the top card over. She even makes up her own "tricks," most of which rely on a really obvious p**k. Now she's trying pa**ing after catching me toiling away at it a couple of times. (Right now she's trying to make her own "Card Toon" deck, I think more as an excuse to write on an old deck of cards.) Who knows, she might be a natural. That's cool that you were already doing some card work at eight, Mary!

Not card work, playing with cards.

I didn't get into Magic till I was an adult.

Six is very young. Still, if she starts with a poker deck shell grow into 'em.

More power to her (and you). I wish I'd had a mentor at six.
