Jimmy Nuzzo:
The Real Deal on the Side Steal "Any pulse-checking, hard-core cardmen in the late 60’s knew the name, “Nuzzo”. It sounded like a brand name. If they didn’t get to actually see him in person and watch him work, they were familiar with the select ideas he published. The carrot-on-the-stick was just hearing about Jimmy’s incredible side-steal." Jon Racherbaumer Dr. James (Jimmy) Nuzzo is a Podiatric Surgeon in the Chicago Suburban area. It is because of his great skill that he is considered one of the preeminent sleight of hand men in the world. - David Solomon Any pulse-checking, hard-core cardmen in the late 60’s knew the name, “Nuzzo”. It sounded like a brand name. If they didn’t get to actually see him in person and watch him work, they were familiar with the select ideas he published. The carrot-on-the-stick was just hearing about Jimmy’s incredible side-steal. Also, remember that forty years ago the rumors mill was a slow-moving process. Word-of-mouth reportage took time; magicians were not informed or as “wired” as they are today. It was a pre-Xerox, pre-video, pre-Internet time, and most information transmission was wholly dependent on giddy, clumsy, unreliable oral tradition. Therefore, one paid attention to rumors and hungered to hear enthused, seductive reports about baffling tricks, clever moves, and secret notes. One also longed to witness fabulous exponents, proponents, and jack-flash experts who allegedly did the “real work”. Well, Jimmy Nuzzo was such an expert back then: a young, Windy-City Turk from Chicago, and more enticing, he was an inner-circle student to the legendary Mario. Needless to say, my ears perked when I heard: “Even if you think you know the real work on the Side Steal, you gotta see Nuzzo do it!” See him do it? This statement was misleading. You saw Nuzzo, but not the moves he secretly executed! -Jon Racherbaumer |
