It's possible that you're deluded enough that you don't believe that there is a bias in the news, (both form the left and the right), that stops reporters from commenting on things they'd rather not discuss if it weakens their personal position, but at least there are some in the press willing to admit to it.

“For what it’s worth, I do think that those of us on the Left have made a decision not to cover this trial because we worry that it’ll compromise abortion rights,” said Marc Lamont Hill, a Columbia University professor known for his frequent appearance on Fox News. “Whether you agree with abortion or not, I do think there’s a direct connection between the media’s failure to cover this and our own political commitments on the Left.”

Rockwall-

I've been watching MSNBC doing extensive coverage of the family and the fact that they are Muslims - including a lengthy interview with the uncle which is still going on as I type.

If it is established that the bombs in Boston were planted by Chechens, it would mark an unprecedented development: the first time militants from the former Soviet republic have carried out a deadly attack outside Russia.

In their long, violent struggle against the Kremlin, Chechen radicals have hit soft targets before. In 2010, two female suicide bombers from Dagestan blew up the Moscow metro, killing at least 40 people and injuring 100. A year later, another suicide bomber struck Moscow's Domodedovo airport; he killed 37 and wounded 180. There have been murderous attacks including one on a school in Beslan in 2004, where 334 hostages died, most of them children.

But the bombing of the Boston Marathon, which police suspect was perpetrated by two Chechen brothers, Dzokhar and Tamerlan Tsarnaev, are something altogether new. It is so far unclear how significant is the trail that appears to lead from the mountains of the North Caucasus – the scene of a simmering ongoing insurgency – to the boulevards and suburban houses of North America.

Says Chechnya ...

http://www.weeklystandard.com/blogs/chec......098.html

The Chechen president has apparently released a statement that blames the suspects' American upbringing for their alleged terrorist activity.

"Tragic events have taken place in Boston. A terrorist attack killed people. We have already expressed our condolences to the people of the city and to the American people. Today, the media reports, one Tsarnaev was killed as [police] tried to arrest him. It would be appropriate if he was detained and investigated, and the circumstances and the extent of his guilt determined. Apparently, the security services needed to calm down the society by any means necessary," says Chechen president Ramzan Kadyrov, according to BuzzFeed.

"Any attempt to draw a connection between Chechnya and Tsarnaevs — if they are guilty — is futile. They were raised in the United States, and their attitudes and beliefs were formed there. It is necessary to seek the roots of this evil in America. The whole world must struggle against terrorism — that we know better than anyone else. We hope for the recovery of all the victims, and we mourn with the Americans."

Will you be surprised when the next attacker comes from Burkina Faso or Brunei?

Don't be.

Don't be too quick to discount it Lobo. The one son was after all attending an American college and who knows what he was being taught there.

Personally, I hope they were acting on their own and were not part of a larger organization. That would make me feel a 'little' better that maybe this isn't a new coordinated attempt to start perpetrating these types of attacks against soft US targets. And while I'm relieved that it doesn't appear to have been perpetrated by a 'right wing extremist' group as several in the press were predicting, (and I suspect hoping for), I'm certain that many of those in the Muslim community are equally disappointed that it appears that it may have been one of their own again.

Who are the "several in the press" who were predicting this involved "right wing extremists?" (Or is that just a rumor being spread on right-wing blogs?)

There is a very nice article here about the young police officer Sean Collier who was killed. It's enough to enough to make you cry, it's enough to make you cry just looking at his picture. I don't know what to say, it's a shame. May he rest in peace.

I predict that these two will be linked to

*radical Islam
*right-wing causes
*left-wing causes
*immigration scandal
*socialist professors

You'll just have to know where to look.

Hi Magnus,

Well, as balducci noted, the President of Chechnya seems to think that these fellows were influenced by something in America, so socialist professors would have to be high on the list. When you read the manifestoes of the Bin Ladens and the Awlakis and the Adam Gadahns, most of it seems to have been cribbed from Howard Zinn anyway.

Him and Obama. They've both caused near-irreparable harm to America. Who knew she was so fragile?

Interesting...on what is unfolding.

We fought Chechen mercenaries in Afghanistan. The Taliban would hire them as mercenaries. It wouldn't surprise me if the Boston bombing was somehow linked to the Taliban or Al-queda. It's war after all.

Breaking news: their Canadian Aunt thinks they're innocent.

Quote:
Maret Tsarnaeva, who lives in Toronto, told CBC News by phone Friday that she hadn't yet contacted her brother Anzor, 46, who is the father of the two men, Tamerlan and Dzhokhar Tsarnaev.

"My nephews cannot be part of this terrible, horrible act that was committed in the streets of Boston," she said.

"I know these two nephews — smart boys, good boys — they have no motive for that. They have no ideas to be going to this kind of act. It's just not the case, it cannot be true."

Tsarnaeva said she has lived in Canada since 1996 and had studied at the University of Manitoba. She said she hasn't seen her nephews for five or six years.

However, she said she spoke to the oldest, 26-year-old Tamerlan, two years ago when his daughter was born, and then again a year ago.

She said Tamerlan is married to a woman that she described as a Christian, and that he's been staying at home taking care of his daughter while his wife worked. About two years ago, she said, he became more interested in his Muslim faith, and started praying five times a day.

Tsarnaeva said she isn't ready yet to believe Tamerlan is dead. She also said she spoke to someone at the FBI on Friday morning to tell them the two men are her nephews and that they are innocent, but that authorities have not contacted her.

It's because of the Chechen connection, she said, that her nephews are being targeted, but she pointed out that the two had spent only a year in Chechnya when the family attempted to move back. Dzhokhar was a toddler at the time, she said. Once war broke out, they left and eventually ended up in the U.S. as refugees in 2002.
