At my last show I tried to include an effect that would pull off two results. !. I wanted it to be entertaining (obviously). 2. I wanted to "push" people to my Facebook page. I wanted them to be compelled to go to FB after the show, like, and comment on the page. However, people were only mildly entertained and very few went to the FB page.
Do any of you do any effects that purposely "push" people to your FB or website? I'm looking for some ideas and would be happy to share what I tried (although it was weak... |

If your good, people will go to your Fb site out of interest. People aren't stupid, they know what you're trying to do. Find other ways to attract people but not during your show.

Perhaps you could offer some kind of download which will teach them something relevant to your performance area? For example if you perform a memory routine or something based on body language you could have a free PDF which introduces those topics. To take it a step further you could force something in the show and then explain that the target word is a password key to a special access section of your site where a gift awaits anyone who decides to drop in and learn more about you and what you do - just a couple of thoughts.

I'm with Kinesis on this one.
I did once have a bunch of young ladies asking me about Facebook. When I said I was not 'on it' (although I am) they were more amazed than by any effect I had performed... T. |

Well I'll be the odd man out. I say it's a great idea and quite creative. It's hard to comment without knowing the effect (not the method) specifically, but the concept seems innovative. Perhaps a prediction effect? Anyway. Good idea. I like it.

The first attempt was a prediction that was highlighted on my page. We brought seven random volunteers up on stage and a volunteer narrowed everyone down to one person. I had predicted that the person would be chosen - proof was on my cell phone and on my FB page.

Look into shortstack this allows you to offer information only to those who "Like" your fan page... I don't recommend driving audience members to your personal page... The free PDF idea is good... The rest of the comments about how good you need to be you can probably ignore...

I think part of the problem might be the medium itself. With so many advances in apps and the like, a prediction online or on your phone can be met with a much higher degree of skepticism, because there's so much potentially going on behind the scenes, they can simply pass it off as a fancy trick of computer programming. Tech savvy spectators will be even more dubious of electronic predictions or revelations,
I agree with the other responses. Your website and Facebook/twitter accounts are part of your marketing. The only reason people will check these things, is if they're interested in you. They will find you eauseyou come up in a search, word of mouth, or if they saw you perform and liked you. If you're entertaining, they'll go to your site. If they love your show, they'll find you on Facebook. YOU will get them to your site, not the effect. The idea of giving them something is a better incentive than using your Facebook wall as a part of an effect. Perhaps bring up how they can learn more about the kinds of abilities you demonstrate by going to your website. Think of it like a virtual BOR setup. |

I think this would be a fantastic idea, I am a speaker and I speak a lot about social media and how there's a huge cultural shift happening so I totally would encourage you to push people to your facebook page. Just remember this, facebook is like word of mouth on steroids if used correctly. I have about 2800 likes on mine and it gets me about 2-4 gigs a month all around Australia. Love your creativity, best human asset.

During the 'Turn Off The Cellphones' plea at the start of your show, have them all dial up your FB page as part of a later thang. They see a card as your profile pic (or prominent on your page). The ones with cell phones show the page to everyone around them. Then have them turn the phones off for the show...
Later, talk about Synchronicity and how it works without guidence, control or influence, but somehow..(whatever).. Then do Smartass. They watch things unfold Synchronicitally, step by fair step. As they already know the target they'll be weighing the fairness of the procedure. And Bammo! Target reached, success, applause and 30% of your audience has seen your your FB page. That could be fairly interesting, couldn't it? A bit less obvious than a straight 'Check my FB page', but it gets them there.

Don't treat Facebook like marketing. Treat it like a place to put content about you or about things you like—in snack-able, easy to consume pieces—just make sure to put it through the lens of "is this interesting enough, that I would share it if someone sent it to me?"
Think of how most meme's work. Silly/astonishing/moving image with like headline or simple text.
