When this came out, I thought it was a guy singing. Bev Bivens had a very unusual voice. She was only 18 when they had their big hit:

She came of retirement in 2009:

Time *sigh*

Would have liked to hear the full version of her present effort.

I'd never seen the group perform, but there was no doubt in my mind that she was a "she" singing. Funny how the mind works; I had her pictured as a blond with long hair. I was about seventeen at the time.
What if the Hokey Pokey really IS what it's all about? Smile

My neighbor rang my doorbell at 2:30 a.m. this morning, can you believe that, 2:30 a.m.!? Lucky for him I was still up playing my drums.

VERY nice!! I never really heard of The Seekers before. In addition to rock, I am also a huge fan of acts like The Mamas and The Papas, and Peter, Paul, and Mary. Thanks Clinton for posting these!

The Seekers were a big hit in the UK and the lead Singer Judith Durham had a distinctive voice, my all time quality voice has to be Karen Carpenter.

Even if you don't know the song, when you hear Karen Carpenter, Diana Ross, Aretha Franklin, Judy Garland, Lulu, Sam Cooke, Tom Jones, Ben E. King etc. you KNOW who it is.

I can't identify the voices of todays singers. They aren't qualified to be back up singers to the Stars I mentioned above.

It's not that I'm old. It's that I have an ear and recognize talent.

The bar has been lowered and the world has accepted mediocrity!

As much as I like the various older singers mentioned, and as much as my first reaction was to agree, I'm not sure that I can entirely go along with you Zombie Magic. There's some modern singers with very distinctive voices ( though distinctive doesn't necessarily mean good). Off the top of my head I might venture Amy Whinehouse or Adele ... And Bjork's pretty distinctive! Smile

I always thought it was a guy singing as well.
One other that I thought had a guy singing was Venus by Shocking Blue.
Bob.

I also thought Venus by Shocking Blue was male.

However, I thought Itchycoo Park was sung by a female

Interestingly, they didn't blow out their voices, so they could probably sound the same ten years or more from now...

The San Francisco Sound is my favorite type of music. This brought back memories.

Jefferson Airplane, Charlatans, Janis Joplin/ Big Brother & The Holding Company, Quicksilver Messenger Service, Grateful Dead, Moby Grape, Steve Miller Band, It's A Beautiful Day, Country Joe & The Fish, Chocolate Watch Band, Creedence Clearwater Revival..... I could go on for a while because I know of a lot of the obscure bands.

I saw my first real levitation while my friends and I were listening to "White Rabbit". Eric's skin turned green and purple as he rose at least 20 feet off of the ground with absolutely no means of support...........

Bev is two years younger than I am, and IMO she did not age well at all.

If there is a single truth about Magic, it is that nothing on earth so efficiently evades it.
