This actually looks really good. It didn't fool me but I think it looks good though, and it will fool a lay audience

There are no dimwitted layman as you are trying to make out I'm implying. But the truth is is that I bet, like me, when you first saw this it fooled you and you thought that it was amazing? Watch demos over and over again and you will more than likely hit on any method, but be careful telling other performers what you think the method is because they will then not purchase the effect, go away and try to recreate the effect as, "Vulgarian has", and then dismiss it as not up to par because they don't know how to make it look deceptive.
Alex has put a lot of hard work on the handlings of CTG. So, if you really want to perform CTG and fool people then support the creator and learn the proper handlings from the download. It's $9!! Alex will teach you his handling so you will be able to perform his effect. Myke |

You even see what is going on in the demo... you even see a full shot of what is going on... watch closely when his first video (the one in his bedroom) is put up...

OK full disclosure:
Alex is a friend of mine and I was involved in this project. A lot of you are missing the point, you may be able to work it out (or think you can) but this is a backwards approach. Your first consideration should be, "is this a trick that will amaze laymen?" by extension you shouldn't buy a trick that is crap or boring just because it fooled you. Performed without the scrutiny of an HD camera, a viewer that can rewind the clip a million times, and that viewer being a magician with expert knowledge this trick absolutely kills. In a normal environment with the correct subtleties, pacing, misdirection and more, this trick absolutely kills. Until you have mastered this trick correctly and performed it for laymen, saying something like "I don't think this will fly in the real world" doesn't cut it. I have seen it work time and time again. People complaining about the price, $9 or £6 is not much. It's about 2 coffees in Starbucks. Come on guys if this goes in your repertoire and you can freak people out $9 is not much. As well as the method you also get so much extra material particularly in the area of performance psychology. As I said I am connected to this project so I can already hear the accusations of bias. What would be great would be someone mastering (and I mean you really have to have it down, not just watching it once and then showing your girlfriend) this trick who is neutral, performing it for laymen and then reporting back. I have NO doubt they will do,so positively. On a final note, this looks as good in real life as on film. Fact. |

Okay
Ive been reading the posts on here, and took a look at the effect, first impressions was that this is a nice idea, clever bit of thinking. I popped in to see the wife at her place of work which is a local pub and had a drink, once I had finished my ice cold pint of lager I thought id perform this for some of the locals in the bar just to see their reaction. Stunned………. None of them could figure out what they had just seen happen. My thoughts on this are that you will need a bit of distance between you and the spectator of about 2 or 3 foot for this to look as good as it can be, if you’re a table worker you will already have this distance so its ideal. Overall great idea Alex. PS. This looks great performed with a colourful poker chip in brightly lit areas. Best R |

Rus that is exactly the neutral review I was after. Remember guys you are magicians, spectators are not. The number one measurement for how good a trick is should be the response from your spectators.

Alex came out with a coin in bottle effect a few years ago, and that was fantastic.
I have no reservations that this is just as incredible. |

I think we get the point. Some of you do not like it. But a lot of working magicians have already voiced their opinion and they love it! Who is right, and who is wrong?
If you don't like it, that's fine. But don't bash people who do. There are a lot of effects we do that the spectators should "see" but never do. You would think they could see that thumb tip, but they don't. Even its not even close to the same color as your own skin. Before any one copmpletly discards this efffect, I suggest they do exactly what Rus did. Go out and perform it. We are all entitled to our own opinions, but to bash some one for theirs, is amazingly wrong. Last thing. Magic producers cant win can they? Some of the posts were bashing E because of cuts in the editing. While some were bashing them for showing to much. We cant have it both ways guys. And I guess they cant make every single magician happy. I say great job to the creator of this effect for being creative and having the courage to release his effect out into the world for it to be ripped to shreds or to be loved. That takes a lot of guts and instantly gets my respect. Brandon |

It looks great but it looks like its just sticking on the outside of the cup. I bet the angle s are very bad. I bet you have to be right in front of the performer . Staying away from this one.

I think the effect looks great and I am sure there are tips on handling etc to make it cooler!
I can see one point that might be why people might be slightly annoyed... a cut in scene in the middle of the coin being inside the glass with the mouth open to the camera.... it may imply something or other IMHO IMHO I would have edited and routined the effect (maybe it is already) to be this way IMHO Show the coin in the cup scene with mouth open in the beginning... rattle it around a bit. Then slide it out and then go into the moves as the video shows... Then toss it back in to the glass and rattle it around and hand it out for examination. So you psych it to be seeming it was always inside IMHOOOOOO But I like it - and although it seems the method is clear - did you think of it until you saw the video? So, thumbs up from me - and just an editorial video suggestion.

I have two problems with this.
First, as others have pointed out, the trailer is absolutely misleading. I mean, the one convincer we are shown in the trailer is actually impossible to perform. Second, it's the old principle whereby if a spectator can think of a reasonable explanation for what happened -- EVEN IF THEY'RE WRONG -- then the magic evaporates. Now in this case, they'll most likely be right, which, to me, robs the effect of all of its potential magic. |

As mentioned before with the correct distance and off beat moment this works real well and is also a great opening to go into a coin thru glass that can be done under closer observation.
This is just my opinion from someone that has performed it. R |

I think the idea of the visual created is stunning, and brilliant, but the execution leaves plenty to be desired.
The "placement" of the coin inside the glass looks suspicious as all ****. I could see the underlying idea being used in a modified context, and being far more deceptive, but as presented here, it is simply far to whittled down, imho.

Its a 45 minute vid...
and I agree the shot at around 38 secs is misleading I did email ellusionist and mentioned it.. they said it was something they considered, but thought it was ok to include... clever effect, testing it out/practicing it and it does visually look great...

This is one of those cases where I'd like to see a demo done for a spectator in a real world situation.

This is a nice effect. Not a magician fooler but yes it is very visual for laymen. To stop them from reverse engineering the trick, do another trick after this! Oh wait, they're called routines. I believe the Ellusionist demo was misleading for the quick little shot there. Shucks, that's the only thing I have against it.

Alex,
After filming the video for CTG, did you have an opportunity to see a finished cut before the product was put up for sale on E's website?
