I just bought a rare Supreme item called "The Scarlet Pimpernel." It is essentially a cups and balls routine with three cups that are open at both ends. Has anyone ever heard of this trick? And if so, do you have any tips to make the presentation more fun or interesting or baffling (or all of the above)?

While not familiar with that item I have performed using napkin rings -- that could be viewed as cups open on both ends.
The advantage is being natural and familiar. SInce there is an opening at the top the audience is over attentive to moves that might "sneak something in" and thereby miss other sleights as bottom loads/extractions. Yu can also use the Cup/Ring as a Portal where something dropped into the top comes out different at the bottom. There are moves performed with standard Cups in a "Mouth Up" alignment that could be used with such a set. For example, you can have a spectator drop Ball into a Cup and then have it vanish, move or multiply.
