I need some help guys! Can anyone think of effects with tennis balls or tennis in general? So far I have come up with doing sponge balls that look like tennis balls. A mentalism effect where two tennis players play a game and the prediction is in the ball they play with or a ball the judge holds. I have methods for both of the above but you guys don't need to worry about methods just ideas, be creative.

Juggling them after a while, each one your throw into the air vanishes? Or a 3 fly? a bounce no bounce ball?

You hit the ball to the other person mid game, and it multiplies, or changes color, or disappears all together.

If you have or can obtain the book, 'The Golden jubilee Book of magic' by Milbourne Christopher there is an effect in there called the Tennis Racket. Similar to a card sword effect but the card ends up on the racket. If you can't obtain a printed copy I'm pretty sure that lybrary.com has it in E-book form.
I don't have a solution, but I admire the problem.

I wont be playing tennis myself pyro magician, but showing tennis stars magic I should have made that clear. I said don't worry about methods but try and be practical. Thanks for the info cfleming. Bounce no-bounce ball might be possible thanks DJ.
Also I should let you know that I may use one of your ideas in a T.V show, so only post an idea if you don't mind it be used (for free). Joe |

I think bounce no bounce would be good because most or all tennis players bounce the ball before they serve....you could hand them a ball and ask if they can hit a target...they throw the ball down and it doesn't come back up. Gotta be careful about that though, you should look for people who do it a lot.

How about using tennis balls as a running gag with your other magic. They show up in the most unusual places at the most inopportune times. Keep throwing them into a container as it becomes ridiculously full.
May be pricey - but you gave the go-ahead to be creative.

Finn Jonn’s Multiplying Tennis Balls it easy to perform (and fairly easy to make). The balls are regulation size and look impossible to produce.
Chop Cup or Cups and Balls routine using tennis balls (check out Bob Farmers Cyclops cups and balls routine for doing a routine with huge balls not just for the final load). Tennis ball to silk (toss vanish)

How about a card to tennis ball instead of lemon?
Or for a real kicker, try pulling a racket out of the ball....or if youre really adventurous, pull the net out of the ball... And if you have really large hands, you could palm off Sampras and Agassi and make them switch places.

Seems to me that there was an effect where a tennis ball turns inside out (Winston Freer).
Light/heavy cylinder - you drop the ball thru an empty cylinder and it stops midway, then falls thru on command - the tube can be shown free of gaffs, as can the ball - you talk about "heavy air"... Consider the ball penetrating the racket... How about cutting the strings off the racket and restoring them? Put several balls on a racket and turn it upside down - the balls cling, then drop off on command... Production of a large number of balls ala crystal box production with spring balls? There are other things, and many methods. Good luck... Best, PSC

The suggestion from Harry Murphy is spot on. Finn John can be seen doing some amazing manipulative magic with Tennis Balls on his International magic Live Lecture Video.

If ideas are still needed, there's a tennis dice game out there. I don't know if it's still available, but it uses three translucent dice: two green and one red. The red die is used for the serve, and the two greens are used for return or no return.
Perhaps you could use those somehow. Always roll an ace, say, or predict what someone rolls, etc. Or perhaps dice stacking, ending with the production of a tennis ball. |

Michael Ammar's Linking Headbands could be done as a tribute to Bjorn Borg. There is also a bit where a small hole is poked in a tennis ball and put into a box which is on its side on a table. You call the ball and it comes rolling out.
Method is when box is on it's side you have a cardboard side that lifts up a little creating a ramp. When the ball is put in the box you squeeze the air out of it causing it to collapse then set it on the ramp. as the ball inflates it becomes a sphere agagin and suddenly rolls out the box. just time it. want more? |

There is a trick Called Just in Case where the magician pulls a pool ball out of a small case. You might be able to use a tennis ball for that.
http://www.jbtv.co.uk You could also (just an idea) contort and really mess up the tennis ball (cutting slits in it) so that no one around you can make it bounce. Then you do the simple bouncing dinner roll effect with the tennis ball. Just a thought. acediamonds

You could be bouncing a ball back and forth, (using a spectator) and throw something like a coin or card into the air in midbounce, only to have it dissapear and reappear inside the ball!
p.s. I have no idea how this could work, but I think it would be a cool effect.

How about a tennis-themed "Stratosphere" using the tube and everything...the only thing you would really need is the outer tube. Or forget having a card appear in the ball, have the player(s) give you something of value (a watch, ring, etc) vanish it in your fingertips. Then walk a good distance up to a tennis ball throwing machine (which normally has a huge basket filled with balls) have the player select a ball (you could shake it and here a rattle inside), pull out a knife and voila there lies their belonging inside the ball. Just some ideas I had while reading.
