Even if all we could teleport was an inanimate object the size of a pinhead to anywhere within a few hundred meters, imagine the military then finding a way of using It to kill people.

An air bubble in someone's heart or some stuff into someone's heart to induce a heart attack. A blood clot into someone's brain. All teleported there.

All natural killer, teleportation.

Beam me dead, Scotty. What a ghastly thought. Smile

Don't be daft man ..... I remember watching this documentary about teleport. It ended messy some bloke got fused with a fly. S they stopped the experiments. Just too risky. I think that the professor dude was called Brundle. Really nasty stuff!

I'm glad they stopped the research ..... Your right about the Army using it for bad reasons. Imagine how many people they could fuse with flys ....l or even other insects and spiders. Scary thought indeed! I would vote for you as Prime Minister of the world!

Imagine instead planing an idea in the mind of another person that changes their life forever. or even removing a false notion that impedes a reasoned decision.

what if some kid became entrapped by an idea and planted a bomb at a gathering of athletes? Armies around the world do this all the time.

Ghastly thought!

Always wondered why teleportation technology wasnt used as a weapon in StarTrek ... just teleport a virus or black hole: better than a photon torpedo! Smile

Besides, who would want to go on a teleporter - sure an identical replica of you would appear on a pad a second later, but what has happened to you after you were turned into numbers ...

And funsway makes an important point regarding the power of ideas.

Wonder if you could switch a transporter to reverse?

The teleporter as weapon was used in "Galaxy Quest" where the transport operator gets the idea of teleporting a rock monster into the midst of the bad guys.

Your "identical replica" idea was the major McGuffin of "The Presitige."

Ahh, I see... You can mock the notion if It makes you feel better. Smile

But I do believe someday we will be able to teleport the smallest amount of matter such as a few atoms some distance. A whole person or even bacteria, I doubt it

As soon as we get enough know how to put that minimum amount of poison directly into someone's brain to kill, we are all doomed. Mark my words.

The good can be harnessed for sure, but the military will always weaponize any leverage. Look at nuclear technology and biological warfare.

Well, maybe we've nuked ourselves by then because of the aliens invading, so no worries.

Stephen King wrote an interesting short story about the subject, called The Jaunt. You can actually read it online here: http://www.freebook4u.org/horror/The_Jaunt/1877.html

Really hope so, for all our sakes.

But that's what they said about flying. Smile

Pakar, you are usually so positive.

Dream better dreams.

There are already plenty of violent types to think up nightmares.

Going somewhere makes some sense for the traveler. Going back again ... not so sure. Light cones and verification data. Think of it as the larger case of the world being the same place after blink or sneeze.

No mocking - the weapon aspect has been explored and one example cited (warpsmith uses pebble where a building did not suffice).

Don't know about teleportation, but stepping discs would be very handy.
