So, had my 57th birthday yesterday. My wife surprised me and had a bunch of family and friends show up at the Restaurant I perform at. Was a great surprise.
Today, I made a couple of goals. I think both goals will require almost the same amount of will power to accomplish. Goal #1: No more comments on political topics. This includes topics about gun control, abortion, socialism, global warming, etc. I've wasted more time than it was worth posting comments on these boards. I doubt I've convinced anyone of anything and I don't think anyone's convinced me of anything. The negative effects have far outweighed any positive effects, (if there were any positive effects, which I doubt!) If I break this goal, I invite anyone to chastise me as much as I did Slide when he wandered back after saying he was gone. Now for the more important goal. Goal #2: I'm going to complete an Ironman before I turn 60. That gives me 3 years. To accomplish this, I'll complete a half Ironman next year, probably in the spring or summer. I've only ever competed in one short triathlon a couple of years ago so this is a big one for me. I ran my first marathon about 10 years ago and have completed 5 since that first one but it's been a few years since I did my last one. I've started running again and I've been doing a boot camp workout for the last 6 months so I'm not in 'terrible' shape but I'm a looooong way from marathon shape, much less Ironman shape. However, 2-3 years should be plenty to get into shape if I stay committed. I'm announcing to everyone to help me stay committed! I'll update occasionally as I make significant progress. I also invite anyone who also decides to set a significant goal to add it to this topic if they so choose. Wish me luck! |

Good luck. They are both honourable goals.
And happy birthday too!

Happy birthday and good luck.
The world is being taken step by step through wars and through a chessboard game to the global system of fascism, which is showing its fists right now. The iron glove or the fist is there underneath the velvet glove and the velvet glove is torn in shatters, don't you think? :)
If there is a single truth about Magic, it is that nothing on earth so efficiently evades it.

Happy Birthday and good luck with the goals. Two good ones to have for sure.
I love encouraging people with goals and if I can be of help, just let me know. To help inspire you, remember these Ironman co-founders (John Collins) words: "You can quit if you want, and no one will care. But you will know for the rest of your life." You Go Rockwall. Tom

Happy Birthday Rockwall.
I have to say that I've really enjoyed arguing with you on various topics, but I agree with the points you made in support of your first goal. I think I may follow your example. I hope we can still argue about other stuff, though. Good thoughts and Good Luck with Ironman, Bob |

Okay- that's a good one. But we'd have to do it in Inner Thoughts.

Two noble goals. I'm trying to do the same as you with your first goal rockwall. However the second one is a difficult act to attempt at my unfit age of 65. My goal is to get on the treadmill for forty minutes each day at 3.5 mph. I did it for a year, but just lost steam and now I have to convince myself to get back to it. It's just so-o-o boring. Good luck!
What if the Hokey Pokey really IS what it's all about?
My neighbor rang my doorbell at 2:30 a.m. this morning, can you believe that, 2:30 a.m.!? Lucky for him I was still up playing my drums. |

I like goal number 2, goal number 1, I would re-think, discussion amongst friends is very valuable. You may think that no-one has convinced you of anything, and vice-versa, but the subconscious is rational and absorbs all rational thoughts presented to it. We all change our behaviours as a result, whether we like to admit to it or not However, when discussion loses its control and becomes a slinging match purely to elevate oneself over our brother, then that's when I personally back away (or at least try to lol) Kam

Goal #1 (short term goal): Land a trade show gig.
Goal #2 (long term goal): Move to Vermont and transfer my business to Vermont. Wife is from Vermont and it's a great state, friendly to the arts and magic.

Happy Birthday Rockwall! I applaud your goals! I undertook your first one a while back and have been happier for it. Besides, there are much better, and much more productive, ways and places to fight for your beliefs than on a message board.
I've also had the idea of a marathon rolling around in my head but I don't know if I really want it. I hope if I undertake it I will accomplish it, just as I hope you accomplish your Ironman goal. Good Luck!! |

Happy birthday, good luck with your iron man project, and you will find that the path you have chosen at not very magical still is the path of least resistance.
