Almost a million images of New York and its municipal operations have been made public for the first time on the internet. The city's Department of Records officially announced the debut of the photo database.
Culled from the Municipal Archives collection of more than 2.2 million images going back to the mid-1800s, the 870,000 photographs feature all manner of city oversight -- from stately ports and bridges to grisly gangland killings. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-......ity.html Visit the archives here. http://www.nyc.gov/html/records/html/gallery/home.shtml |

Wow. This is like Google Street View combined with a time machine. I just found my parents' home circa 1980 with their car in the driveway. The zip code is wrong, however.
Many thanks for the link.

Thanks. Very real, cool!
If there is a single truth about Magic, it is that nothing on earth so efficiently evades it.

Pics are great!
Being born and reared in Queens, my mother's and father's families both had NYC roots and back in the nineties I spent a lot of time in those Municipal Archives on Chambers Street researching births, deaths, marriages, and all kinds of other records. I used to take vacation days and spend whole days at a time in those archives on Chambers Street seeking and finding amazing information about my ancestry. They've done a terrific job at preserving vital records for NYC folks.
What if the Hokey Pokey really IS what it's all about?
My neighbor rang my doorbell at 2:30 a.m. this morning, can you believe that, 2:30 a.m.!? Lucky for him I was still up playing my drums. |
