Back in the day I used Bikes and I would cut the borders of with scissors. This made the cards smaller and mor colorful for stage, but it was way to much work. I prefer bees for stage but I think Bikes and Bees feel about the same for manipulation.

This topic of card brands seems to never get resolved. I can remember when "Steamboating" someone meant using cards without white margins (Steamboat brand) like Bees. The key advantage was it was difficult to catch second card deals. However, a reversed card in the deck was a hard secrete to keep.
It appears to me that the main thing associated with brand choice is who works to get the magic trade's attention. Now it is Bicycle. As a young rodeo cowboy I grew up believing that Levi was the cowboys' tailor. Now Wrangler puts up the money and the cowboys wear Wrangler. Most rodeo contestants are way too young to know this has changed several times. I do believe in "dancing with who brung ya" and the Bicycle folks are kind to us. But when I have a choice, I use bridge size cards. I have received criticism for that from magicians only. And something else they had in common was that they were not working. Ultimately, audience appeal is the only thing that keeps us working. They know it's a trick. Why would they care what brand of cards we use? We seldom work for other magicians. I still think we are getting off the topic here a little bit. The direct question was the advantages and disadvantages of using bikes as opposed to Bees and other cards for mainly stage card manipulation and who prefers what and why.
I do agree with Bob in that we too often work our magic around impressing our fellow magicians when we should spend more time entertaining our audiences. But when it comes to Bikes vs Bees in card manipulation, it really is more a matter or preference. Either card works and can be worked in to make them flexible. The Bees have an added advantgae of the no white border. This gives a little bit better flash tone when the card is clipped and shown in the shadows of the hand. Although if the cards are performed in a stage environment, that is does not become such a huge issue for the manipulator.
