After nearly 30 years of performing, sometimes, some shows just seem to be a string of tricks still. I mean I have worked on individual stories & plots and tie some of the mentalist effects together. Does anyone else have issues with pacing, applaud cues? Can it still be a great show if no one claps (until cued 'Let's give him a big round of applause for helping), but the magic leaves astounded faces & nothing but good words afterwards?!

I know there isn't a bad audience... even though today's performance.. rebooked me in 3 weeks in the same place and offered a handful of possible private shows... still feel something missing at times. A good opener, build, interlude, stronger effect until a good closer (that ties back an opening starting point) and even a fitting encore effect with a closing toast to the crowd I just don't know.. still feel a bit like pushed to MOVE when I'm working at a pace... can still feel I'm missing something performance wise.. well, back to strong magic, beyond secrets, etc books and all the performance orinated DVDs.

Anyone else have one of these days?!

Cordially,
~R

From what you've written it appears that you are doing the right thing.
Having constructed a show piece by piece it may appear to you that there are only the individual building blocks. It may appear different to somone not so concerned with your rehearsal process.
With respect to your concern over audience reaction, do you need rapturous, upstanding, riotous cheering!? Is that the effect you would give having seen another performer doing your show?
It may be a cliché to say but build your show with the intention of leaving your audience either laughing or crying. Tragedy is unusual in magic but not impossible.
So decide how you want to leave your audience and construct your show along that theme.
