Port Arthur, Tasmania, Australia. It's a historical prison site where convicts were sent to Australia from England I think. There they were tortured and it's known as one of the most haunted places in Australia.
I felt a pressing feeling on my abdomen from outside of my shirt, it was like physical fingers prodding me.

Google images search "port Arthur"

This place was my home away from home in Birmingham. I’ve walked the darkest parts of it by myself, and even in the daytime will make the hair on your neck stand up. It was actually functioning and belching lots of toxic smoke up to the year before I first moved to Alabama.

This is one of many shows, etc. that told of the hauntings.

And although you said no commercial haunted houses, I think this deserves to be grandfathered in, because it is built on a site reported to be haunted (Sloss). Here is the web site of the Halloween haunt that is held there every October. I was part of this, performing an illusion show for ten years with some of the coolest sideshow freaks on the planet!

I bought the "Weird Washington" book and have long wished to build a road trip around some of the locations.
Have done the Seattle Underground tour a few times. It's not as creepy as one might expect. It is fun though.
I live right next to the cemetery I used to work at and there are train tracks and old abandoned schoolhouses and things all around in the woods behind us. It's fun Smile

Lets just say that a fun loving east coast, Catholic, Italian American, registered democrat doesn't have any peers in Utah. LOL

There are parts of Utah that are far more liberal than one might imagine. Far, far more liberal.

Al, I think you're uptight about Utah! Smile

Creepiest place I can remember (I've been in some catacombs, but they didn't seem creepy to me) was my high school, alone, at night, with very little lighting.

I worked in our school's auditorium when I was in high school (1 of 3 or 4 who did), and sometimes I was the only one who worked a show or an event, and always had to be the last one out after turning off the lights, making sure doors were locked, etc... Man, it was creepy in the school - not just the auditorium - when I was there alone late at night.
My ex-cat was named "Muffin". "Vomit" would be a better name for her. AKA "The Evil Ball of Fur".

There was a thread going in Spooky at one time that had a link to photos of the creepiest places on Earth. Some of them were excellent.

Chessmann, I saw this thread and was going to post nearly the same thing you did.

At night, alone, it was like a mausoleum.
