Beautiful new effect by one of the nicest and most opinionated (ok coolest!) guys in magic
This reminds me a lot of one of my fave Alakazam effects - Cataclysm, which I use quite often. I will likely get this. You don't get as many hits as Cataclysm, but it looks very tight and neat. I like it. Phoenix decks? Cool! Appears like the top card is marked as a 0 yes? Great work Jon... and looks like Penguin has this too: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9CytuXsCbL0 http://www.penguinmagic.com/p/3427 "A quality effect with a powerful kicker. This is a no brainer folks. Just get it - you owe it to yourself to give your audience nothing but the best!" -Angelo Carbone “So clever… I had to produce it!” -Christian Schenk From the creative mind behind Flexion, Double Back, The Destination Box, The Silent Treatment and more, Jon Allen brings you an incredible new effect: Rule of Three. After naming the QH & AS as the two most popular cards, you ask someone to name a third card. A prediction shows you knew the card they would name! While all the other cards have different numbers on their back up to 52, the QH & AS have #1 and #2 on their back and the named card has #3. As a final kicker, you turn over the deck to show every card is blank! Rule of Three delivers a simple, direct yet powerful effect as well as a highly visual impact. An exciting new method! Forget about: Equivoque, Roughed cards, Sticky stuff, Partial printing, Deck switches...You won't need any of these! If you are looking for a routine that leaves your audiences STUNNED, Rule of Three is for you!

WOW! As much as I like Blizzard, I like the look of this more. And Jon guided her down the garden path and got her to say "they're all 9 of spades". BRILLIANT wording on his part.
I like all the methods listed, but it doesn't use any of them. I'm blown away by this! |

The blank cards as the kicker is really the best part huh?

I really like the look of this. Blank card kickers really do hit hard in my experience, so I'll keep my eye on this!

Saysold1, IMHO, blank card kickers can either be a fantastic ending, or they can dilute a great routine. In Rule OF Three, I think they make it a fantastic ending. Before reading the ad, I watched the routine a few times and thought of several methods. In reading the ad, I'm at a loss.
The routine and wording keeps making me smile. Another example of how Jon Allen "connects" with an audience! |

I would have preferred Jokers instead of blanks. But I love it!!

(besides the method is incredibly clever and perfect for the wonderful trick construction)

Looks very nice. I think layman would be blown away with this! I believe Phoenix decks have to be used with this as with the final reveal of a regular bicycle deck would not look like a full deck as it does with the Phoenix. Really nice effect though!

I agree with you Jon. I don't understand why threads have to go down this path. You would think some people would know better.

I thought the rules of Latest and Greatest was that we are free to speculate as to methods provided you don't actually know. If true then the comments re: DD seems fair. If I am wrong, or the rules have changed then might be useful to restate them here so we don't do something wrong.

Nope. I just read them again and it says nothing about speculation of methods. Speculate about hyperbole, yes... but methods, no. I didn't put out a video full of hyperbole and heavy edits to create a false presentation like many products. I didn't fake the video which would lead people to suspect a different method at play. I had a guy shoot a video if me performing the trick in full for a group of laymen. That's all there is; no fluff or filler or fake.
It is what it is. Where's the respect? I know there's always people on here who just want to know methods. Why do they deserve to have information handed to them on a plate without any effort on their behalf? Why would you do that to creators of new magic tricks? I remember Boris Wild being slaughtered for not having a video of his ACAAB routine. I guess creators are in a Catch 22. For me, as always, the presentation is key.

Not to nitpick, but this is what is written in 'da rules':
"It is , after all, only natural to speculate the possible method to a new trick or effect. Comments as to possibilities of a method are just that - Possibilities. One person may say; "I think it might use a piece of velcro" while another may comment; "No, it probably uses a magnet". Either scenario is okay. " But I agree on the "presentation is the key" part.

Jon--
I agree with you... but... well, you need to read the rules again... all the way to the end. Paperinick has properly quoted a section of the rules. So, what is a creator to do? Don't worry, you're already doing it. Your method is clever, practical, and will fly by any "human." Plus, and more importantly, your premise is solid and engaging. Personally, I think the guys who speculate are just trying to reassure themselves that they can do it, ya know? Hey everybody! Listen up! If you like the effect/trick/routine/thinking/premise, just get it! Remember, it's Jon Allen... you can't go wrong. Seriously. --Harlan |
