I talked to Jan and the auhorized builder about getting right rights to build a slightly different version of this trick for a client.. his rights aren't cheap... and he has to approve any changes. I wanted to change the method and the general effect quite a bit for reasons I won't go into here... and it didn't' seem to me that either he or the authorized builder really wanted to make the changes...
With Criss's money... he could have just asked... the rights are available.. perhaps not for TV.. but for a stage version.. |

I currently am performing daily at at Theme Park in OKC. Part of my show is a close up bit on IMAG. My patter asks the audience who remembers Mark Wilson, Doug Henning, David Copperfield, David Blaine, and Chris Angel? Famous magicians on television. Very few even remember Copperfield, or Henning . None remember Mark Wilson. All know David Blaine and overwhelmingly Chris Angel. It is AMAZING to me that the public remembers what it remembers. Pretty sad that Copperfield, in my opinion the greatest of all time, is now in obusurity.

David: Herein is the problem.....
Copperfield is largely not on TV anymore. When he was doing an almost yearly show, virtually everyone knew him. Angel (unfortunately) seems to be in permanent re-run.

I have done a particular keynote for entrepreneurial high school students (called Camp Enterprise) for over 10 years now - in one of the lessons I ask how many remember Henning (none - and this is in Canada right where he started), DC (2 or 3), David Blane (none), Angel (actually not as many as you would think maybe 40%) - Houdini (a good 80+%). Interesting.
