Hey I'm hoping to build my first collapsible vertical Asrah soon. Any good sources on this type of soldering? Also places where I can find small hinges for metal rods? Thanks!

Nothing in print, these are only sold, Klamm Magic sells the Jim Sommers model, and Stevens Magic sells one from Europe. The only vertical one is the one from Stevens Magic.

I have the one from Stevens magic, I have never used it in anger. It is very light and moves bout all over the place, very difficult to make it look convincing. Might just be me not operating it properly but I tried to sell it and both magicians that came to see it said the same thing after playing with it.
By failing to prepare, we are preparing to fail.

If you are wanting hinges for metal rods, you might do better to machine pivot joints into those rods.
Regarding the soldering, maybe Richard Hughes can shed some light for you.

With it being vertical only you just need to worry about head and shoulders. I made one out of chicken wire or something a tad heavier, worked in a pinch. All you need to focus on is the roundness of the top of the head and the roundness of the shoulders. And... not moving it too much once you are in control of it. You might consider something that is a variation of a dekolta chair, something that hooks on the shoulders and has a piviot in the back for the top of the head. Also, the thickness of your material may determine how much it will need to collapse. Are you wanting this for a levitation? or just a striking vanish?

I once built a horizontal Asrah that is portable and able to be used outdoors.
PM me for details. |
