I was having a look for magnets on Maplin's site (in the UK) and came across their small round mega magnets, which they describe as 'rare earth magnets - the world's most powerful type.'
Seeing they are so small they could easily be concealed and was just wondering if anyone knew or had any experience of these particular magnets and just how strong they actually are? Thanks Neil |

Not familiar with this particular site, but can vouch that "rare earth magnets" are VERY strong. My first experience with them was during a course on Magnetic Chi Gong. The magnets were stood onad were quite large to help channel energy between the body and the earth. While putting my set away one after noon; I accidentally got them stuck together. I had almost given up trying to get them apart but finally got it after about 30 - 45 minutes of fighting with them. the ones I had were quite large 8 in x 5 in x 1 in if I remember correctly.

Thanks - I reckon from what the site says, they are very strong and warn about the hazards of them crashing together. They are about the size of a button so can be nicely hidden.
I hope to buy some soon. |

Can't find the "N-rating" anywhere for those particular ones:
(N-rating - http://www.kjmagnetics.com/FAQ.asp#grade) I imagine they'd get the job done though. But you'd probably find a cheaper equivalent on eBay.

Just a funny story really, I was at Magic Madrid some years ago and the owner Armando and his brother went to pick up a delivery of these nagnets, the package was about the size of a shoe box. Anyway it was heavy and the two of them were gone for a long time, turns out that when they got in the lift (elevator) the shoe box was attracted to the walls where it stuck fast, they had to tear away the cardboardof the box and more or less remove each one individually and place them outside. Just thought it might give you a smile.

Dealextreme.com may also have what you want. They have a nice selection, small costs and they ship free.

KJMagnetics is very good at the descriptions all products show, an "N" rating next to the product. Highly recommend this company. have been doing business with them since 2005. Here is good example:
1" dia. x 1/16" thick Grade N52 - Nickel Plated Axially Magnetized Price: $2.52 JMN
It's never the wand, it's always the magician

Thanks for all the advice about sources - given magnets now come in all sorts of sizes, shapes and strengths this has opened up quite a few possibilities.
One idea I have for their concealment is rather than a TT, quite a few years ago I saw something that looked like a Sanada gimmick but had little pockets which could hold small billets etc. I was thinking this too could conceal magnets but at the moment the name of this device escapes me. If anyone could advise about what it is called, I'd be grateful. Thanks Neil |

I second KJMagnetics, I too have used them and the service is first class and the prices are reasonable.
