As an afterthought, I am mindful of the fact that we are starting to chat about tree reading in general rather than specific reviews of the doodle book which is a good thing but I don't wish to infringe the posting rules for this section of the Café. I wonder whether someone would like to open a new thread in Penny which is more generic and doesn't mention my book specifically. There we could chat in more general terms about tree reading and our approaches and this section can remain on topic. I am wary to open it myself in case this is perceived as self-promotion! I'll keep an eye out in case anyone chooses to take the initiative on this one and will contribute where I can

Another thing I like about Doodle Me a Tree is what Andy has to say about hieroglyphic names. Sea can attest my name is sort of a hieroglyphic. I developed my signature based on three things, and it has changed over time. When my mother signed her name, the initial letters of her first and last name were about the only thing legible. I liked the way it looked. My parents were separated when I was very young and later when they made an attempt to reconcile, I liked the way my father had a big looping R for his first name, Robert (I am a junior), and that he only signed Robt. So, I incorporated both aspects into my signature. Then, after I was married, my wife is a big rule follower. So, everything gets signed nice and neatly ... and on the line. I made a conscious decision, whenever I signed my name, I was going to go beyond the area allotted to sign.
Andy talked about home some interpret the hieroglyphic name as indicating something is hidden, but I am not hiding anything; I just think the way I sign my name is cool. So, I appreciate Andy recognizing there could be something more than just trying to hide something. And, whenever I am asked to sign my name, I always use my legal signature: Robert E. Warren Jr., I very rarely sign Bobby Warren; it is very awkward for me to sign because I do not have the same flow (or muscle memory). Bobby

I have the ebook and can give it my highest recommendation. This is true even if you have Rudy Hunter's dvd, "Draw Me a Tree".
The ebook is easier to learn from and has many, many nice touches that show experience with the system. You really cannot appreciate the power of this reading unless you try it or have it done for you. As has been pointed out, there is nothing occult about this. It has a good logical basis and is a wonderful, visual reading system. If there is one word to describe this system, both for giving and getting a reading, the word is "fun". I remember when I got Hunter's dvd. I worked my way through it and at a neighbor's party tossed it out to a woman. She drew, so did everyone else. I had fun doing the readings and thought maybe this should go on my webpage. I didn't have a cell camera with at the time and quickly found out that no one wanted to give up their drawing. Fast forward to this week. I am reading Andy's book and get to the part where he tells you to draw your own tree. The feeling I had was, "This is fun!". While later looking at the thread I noticed that word, "fun", also being used. Simple, non-occult, fun for you and the person being read. The price is almost meaningless if you are remotely serious about doing this. One thing to think about. I got the ebook. I quickly decided I also wanted a print copy. As the ebook is 200 pages I checked lulu http://www.lulu.com/shop/andy-fisher/doo......329.html . That is a printed, bound copy for less than I can print it and three-hole punch it at the print shop. If you are someone who likes things printed and have car repairs or other adventures that limit your toy budget you might want to go straight for the printed book. |

Andy,
Finished Doodle Me a Tree and you've provided me the answer to a non-traditional approach to readings that can be used in all venues. Thank you for the time and work you put into this. Just my thoughts, Solarzar |

So glad you have found it useful - it has been a pleasure sharing my ideas with the community and I really appreciate all the kind words and validation over the last couple of weeks. |

A great thing about the ebook is that it's commenting features are unlocked - meaning you can highlight sections and add comments like a real book, and then save the marked up file separately.

I tried to order this through LULU but couldn't. It wouldn't let me use PayPal.
Anyway, I am looking forward to getting this soon or later. I can use this along with a couple of other things to create something the sitter will remember. Ray |

Hi Ray
Hmm sorry about that - I did an updated release last week in order to tweak the front cover and revise a pagination issue that had showed up - it is likely that it was just rotten timing that for the hour that the the book was offline, you tried to order. So sorry you couldn't pick a copy up. Could I ask you to try again and let me know if you still have an issue, let me know. I know that sales went through yesterday without a problem so hopefully you won't have an issue this time Darby - thanks for the comment; I wanted to allow the ebook to be as open a resource as possible so I decided to leave many of the editing options open to those who have brought it - I am glad you have made use of the annotation process. I think I may already have mentioned that I believe reading a book should feel a little like having a conversation with the author and it is rare for me to read a book without a highlighter pen and pencil in hand! |

Hi Andy,
I was able to complete the order this time. Must have been gremlins at work! But after a few attempts I was successful in my quest, much like taking the ring to the mountain in Lord of the Rings. LOL Best Ray |

Does Doodle a Tree or any of the other incarnations just ask to draw a tree? The version I've always known asks for a tree, house, sun, river & snake. And anything else they feel should be in the picture but it must include those 5 items.

Hi Russell
Yes, 'Doodle Me a Tree' is a stand alone personality reading system that focuses upon a person's tree doodle. A full reading includes an interpretation of the doodler's autograph too but this isn't necessary to offer a detailed reading - the versions you refer to are iterations of earlier psychological assessment tests that have usually been used in a clinical setting, while this model is designed specifically for entertainment and has a more playful approach. Feel free to PM me if you have any more specific questions I can help you with |

Russell,
Doodle Me a Tree just asks for someone to draw a tree and sign his/her name. Andy makes mention of earlier tests that involved more objects. It seems as if you can get a "deeper" reading with all of those elements, with each one representing some different aspect of a person's life, but one of the charms of Doodle Me a Tree is that it appears quite simple on the surface, yet the tree with the signature can reveal a lot. There are enough elements in the tree and name to keep a reader busy. I, personally, would not want to have to deal with all of those objects. It would seem too convoluted to me, but I realize that is just my perception having never been involved in it. Bobby

I just have read 50 pages and I already start loving the book. I ordered it at lulu and got it after two weeks.
Besides the insightful thoughts which went into the learning steps and system I like to point out the fact that it is also very well written!! Star Wars forever! Vividly examples (not just drawing examples) help you to learn the system in no time I bet. I sure will go with that system. I already have ideas to combine it with ColorMatch. To offer different pens and beeing able to "read" (unseen) the choice of the spectator may help to entertain and building rapport. Thank you for your work and time on the subject! Highly recommended book |

Hi ArtIn
Thanks a lot - I really appreciate your kind words and 'May the Force Be With You'! I will be interested to hear how the combination with ColorMatch works out - it sounds like it could be very effective. Happy doodling and do check out the blog at http://www.doodlemeatree.com/Wordpress which might support your progress in learning the system |

Andy,
Forgive me for being lazy, but in your book, do you talk about appropriate ages for tree readings? I have been hired for a nonprofit to do a couple of shows for a celebration event. I will be performing two different magic shows. However, this client has been very good to me over the years, and I was thinking about doing some walk-around where appropriate (when I do "walk-around" it involves me using a small table ... think music stand with a 14x14 tabletop), then I thought, what if I tossed in some tree readings. There will be some children at the event, but have you written about tree readings for children? Thanks, Bobby

Hi Bobby
I haven't yet addressed this although in conversation with others I have a notion that 16+ and the tree doodle begins to reflect that person's persona. Younger that that and the tree seems to resemble a more generic tree reproduced from story book images rather than something more personalised. However, I wonder whether this might be an opportunity to do something a little different which I have been experimenting with in extended readings. Ask the younger attendees to doodle a tree but then add the following two instructions - 'Now I will let you into a secret - buried under the roots of this tree is a very special object, something which has magical properties...what do you think it might be!' Have them draw this and then add 'and also, high up in the canopy of the tree a balloon has become caught in the branches - what colour do you think it might be?' 'And finally, the balloon has a ribbon attached to it and dangling from that ribbon is a tag with a single word printed on it...what is that word?' These additional pieces of information allow for additional reading elements and open up the possibility for effects too should you decided to go that way (imp the word on the label or use a na****er to show you knew what the object under the roots was all along. The highly visual and imaginative nature of this variation of tree reading might well suit younger people - let me know if you try this because I have only just started playing with it myself but the early results have been really promising. |
