I bought his first album in 1963 or 1964 and I thought he sounded like a drunken cowboy back then

I read an interview he did with Playboy Magazine back around 1970 or so. I think it was Playboy, but I might be mistaken. It was after he had been in a bad motorcycle accident if I remember correctly, and after his release of Nashville Skyline. The interviewer asked him about the seemingly improvement of his voice in his later music and Dylan quipped something like, "How can anyone carry a tune smoking those dammed cigarets?" He'd quit smoking some time before the release of Nashville Skyline.

My neighbor rang my doorbell at 2:30 a.m. this morning, can you believe that, 2:30 a.m.!? Lucky for him I was still up playing my drums.

Most of us who did devil weed gave it up long ago. I smoked two packs of Kools a day at one time, and I haven't touched the stuff in 44 years.

Al, I started smoking when I was fourteen and quit about a dozen times between then and now, with the longest span being ten years and going back. It IS a devil weed. At this juncture I'm free from it for about two years and don't plan on ever going back again.

I gave the stuff up before we knew it was addictive. If I knew I was an addict 44 years ago I'd probably still be smoken today. I just threw a half smoked pack out the window of my car when we took my oldest daughter home from the hospital, and I haven't taken a puff since. I wish you the best in your quest to stay off of the devil weed tobacco.

Quit eight years ago. Started at 14, smoked three packs a day until then. Wouldn't think of taking a drag of tobacco, now.

Al, are you publicly fessing up to the fact that you are/were a litterbug?

Hang in there Pop, it's a life long battle and a stinking, insidious, disease-ridden habit. I think I'm finally done too.
